Let's see how far we can go with this, if you have any ideas put 'em down.

If you see any ideas that HAVE already been used, one way or another tell us which track contains that sample.

  1. 'Blank Generation' Richard Hell/Voidoids (guitar intro)
  2. 'Singapore' by Tom Waits (the bass outro)
  3. something by John Martyn - 'Big Muff' or 'Smiling Stranger'

Regards,

acapella

Hmm...be interested to see what other people have to say on this. I guess:

1. Hey Leroy (The Creature from the Black Lagoon is your father) - Jimmy Castor Bunch
2. Sonic Youth - pretty much anything. Surprised RZA, Muggs and the like haven't picked up on all those juicy noise/melodic possibilities for their futuristic/doom/noise funk.
3. Mingus - Black Saint & The Sinner Lady - Track 1 (swooping horns & drumline). Been meaning to try and do something with that myself.
4. Stooges - 1969 (opening bars). Been meaning to hit that one too.
5. Philip Glass. You want loops? You want melody? You want LARGE sound? He got all that.

I know El-P has emulated/near-sampled him (Scream Phoenix), but as far as I know no one's ever really done it.
Dang, now I gave away all my ideas.

Marvin Gaye, I heard it through the Grapevine.

Tried it myself but side tracked as usual. I will try again though

Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain - Willie Nelson

Seriously, I'm working on a track using it now.

Syl Johnson has plenty of tracks that are just begging to be sampled. I don't know of any songs that do sample him, but "I Hate I Walked Away" is great.

This has been done very recently as an electro track by Micheal Mind.

Syl Johnson's Is It Because I'm Black has been sampled a few times, like the Cypress Hill interlude Lockdown on Black Sunday.

I'll have to check out that other track.

I think all songs above already have been done..
funky drummer is one of the most well-used samples, I believe..
btw, the-breaks.com is good site to search samples especially 90's hip hop..

hahahaha the funky drummer and the amen, nah they've never been sampled ever!
You could be onto something big here, and i mean BIG!

I'd like to see more sampling of Johnny Cash in modern songs.
I dont think i've seen much lately with him in?
