mofdonkParticipantSong writting basic tips
Concept:
It is usually a good idea to have a concept or a meaning to your song, without this your song is going to lack emotionand feeling and will be less likely to grab the attention of potential listeners.
Concepts are evidentally up to you (The writter) and should reflect your personality or style.fitting words to music & vice versa:
This is where problems regularly arise in song writting, people have the words and feeling they want from there lyrics but when it comes to fitting it in with the music or making music to the lyrics nothing seems to fit. A simple tip is to make ur point as quickly and efficently as possible, dont go on and try to exopand on the point to much. A great song writer is able to able to put his/her point across in a single line and in some cases woth a single word.
If u are writting to the music it is a good idea to stop after each new line play the music and recite to the music, you will usually find that you need to add or remove a word or two.Flow:
Make sure that ur words are flowing and that u dont get syllable problems, words with a large amount of syllables tend to clog up your lines, so where as you could use 8 words that flow well and explain ur point with clarity and punch, a word with a large amount of syllables which may sound very intelligent and may improve the way your lyrics come across is likely to clog up your line giving u less room for other words and will put out the rythem of your lyrics, making the whole track sound off beat and out of place.
Also Plosive words can be a problem, sometimes its great to use aliteration especially in with hiphop rhymes, but with p’s and b’s this can be problem in recording but also again with the rythem of ur lyrics, make sure u pick the right words and also make sure that your vocalist is confortable with aliteration in lyrics as a good vocalist maybe able to pull it off well.Delivery
Wether a singer, rapper, poet or spoken word vacalist delivery is extremley important sometimes it is not what you say but how you say it that takes the listeners ears.
First what is the style of the song, soft and melodic, raw and serious or a smooth monotone style, of course your delivery depends usually on the style of the tune. After you have sorted all the pre-recording issues out as stated above its time to record, this is where delivery is evidentally most important.
My tip here would be dont rush it, if you want quality it is likely you will have to work for it, it may be over after 1 take or it may not be right after 50. A good idea is to practice over and over, try and learn the lyrics of by heart but still have the written version handy just to help you along.
When delivering the vocals try not to focus to much on how it is coming out, you may have to focus a little on tone, accent, pitch, demenor/attitude etc but try and let it come out naturally let it flow along with the tune itself.AdSense 336x280November 15, 2007 at 2:54 am #637149

Nice tutorial, next time you do one, ask a member of Staff to move it into the Tut’s section.
Peace

Lord AlfabetikParticipantGreat tips, I have a Tutorial to write songs in French :
Déjà choix du thème:
Choisissez un thème qui vous tient à coeur, évitez les textes stéréotypés du genre les flics c’est tous des cons, mon quartier il te baise…
Ensuite, quand vous avez trouvé un thème qui vous tient à coeur et qui vous inspire, vous pouvez commencer.Les rimes:
–>Déja évitez de ne faire que des rimes en -é ou -i, le tout étant de les varier. Vous pouvez faire plusieurs schémas rythmiques:
[u:23p0e0of]
Rimes plates:[/u:23p0e0of]***********************A
***********************A
***********************B
***********************BRimes croisées:
**********************A
**********************B
**********************A
**********************BRimes embrassées:
**********************A
**********************B
**********************B
If some frenches are interested, or even other persons who speak french.
It’s a take of the greatest French HipHop Forum Clashrap.

supervinylParticipantYou’re right about fitting the words in with the flow of things. Defining syllables is never an easy thing to do.
