Rane Serato or NuMark Virtual Vinyl

Postby illMEASURED on Sun Jul 08, 2007 7:46 am

I've heard a lot about Rane's Serato Scratch Live program but I haven't been able to find many reviews for the new Numark Virtual Vinyl. Has anyone used both or one or the other. I'm looking into getting one mainly for production purposes but for DJ gigs too and I can't decide since they both cost around the same.

Which one is better for scratching wax, CDJ's, video DJ, effects, etc.?

Can you guys give me any recommendations or suggestions on these 2 programs?

Thanks

I dl'd Numark as a trial. Didin't have an interface or timecode at the time. What was cool was that you can use your existing soundcard outs without usb... very basic though. It's got fun effects and tweaks, however, I didn't get to try it at full tilt.

Recently converted to serato (former vinyl purist), and it's great. I keep my tunes on the internal hard drive and it's smooth as silk.

Can't read your timecode vinyl like a real 12", but it's still very convenient.

Try the numark trial software and get a feel for it... but see if you can get with a buddy who's got serato and bring your ext. hd over. Try 'em both out - they're similarly different.

I am a huge fan of SSL. though there are no onboard effects, the tempo and rhythm bars are off the wall helpful (especially when mixing in softer song intros/pieces). If you can swing the cash for the intergrated mixer, you're in even better shape but I find that my djm909 handles it just as well. If you really wanted to go crazy and happen to have a bunch of effects pedals/processors laying around you can run them as well with a little effort. Mix Master Mike does that all the time with his rig.

If you're concerned with the "lapse" using a control vinyl, watch some of the SSL demo videos. You can cut just as well, though a little adaptation is needed.
