I Dj using vinyl only. Cannot beat it in my opinion - sound, touch, aesthetics - even the smell of a fresh vinyl!
Would only use a cd, comp etc if i had too - for instance playing my own tunes that I havent had pressed yet. http://www.djenbee.com - free drum and bass downloads
Yeh precisely! But i suppose the wouldn't want to make it harder! I'm not knocking people who use other stuff - do you thing man building a record collection is expensive. BUT!!! I know anyone who does mix vinyl will tell you how nice a record collection is to have and how addictive record collecting is lol! http://www.enbeemixes.co.uk
Been using Traktor Scratch for about a year now. Haven't used Serato so I can't compare the two.
Vinyl is just sexier than anything else. Involves skill and touch in order to sound tight. I break out the crates on occasion, but I love being able to set up loops on the fly with Traktor and going to town.
Well... its not fair to bash on the laptop djs... since there are two types of them... those that DJ primarily through the laptop... and those that run a 'controller' through to the laptop (a lot of 'modern' scratch djs are using this now)...
I personally like using cds, a) a heck of a lot lighter than vinyl records b) you can put EVERYTHING on cds... kinda hard to put the latest mashup on a record now isn't it... c) if you practice, and really learn the system it is still very possible to scratch, again... you have to practice to make sure it doesn't sound like all you did was up the BPM scale... Although I have a strange feeling I am due to get one of those 'controllers' that I keep seeing all over the place... still has a pseudo-pro look to them and you have the pleasure of using software which takes other burdens off... overall it makes life easier, yet more challenging at the same time. P.S. I also believe that with the emergence of dj software, it is going to come down to not only how good you are but also who you know. Anybody at this point can make a set using Virtual DJ now... and once you learn how to make a set using V-DJ its not hard at all to play a party through it...
