Hi everyone,

I'm new in this excellent website.
I'm a guitarist using pro tool lite on a PC. I want to start the mash-up art.
Do you think that it works well in PC Pro tool solution.
It's allready hard for guitar on a PC and i ask myself about buying a MAC espacially for the music.
Do you think that i can keep my PC Pro Tool ?

Thanks a lot for your comments.

Excuse my poor english but i'm french even if i know it's not an excuse Smilie_PDT

I wouldnt do it fam, especially since you got all those programs that the PC HAS to run in order for it even be compatible with anything. I mean, you can take off all the games and stuff like that, but unless you get like an external hard drive (i.e. MyBook, etc.) that holds gigs and gigs....A Mac would be the ideal way to go. But its possible with a PC, jus better and more covenient with Mac....But then again, its your world....

%)

Hi there, I used to use pro tools at college, as I produce dance toons I personally found that pro tools was better suited for MAC and accoustic/rock music whatever

Hmm... I was thinking about upgrading from FL Studio to Pro Tools M-Powered within the next few months or so. I was warned there may be problems with it. I also had considered buying a mac laptop... I don't wanna end up putting Pro-Tools on my PC and find out it has all kinds of funk problems.

I almost never have problems. Only when I use dodgy VSTs

I purchased a MBox with ProTools LE trough our Digidesign agents here in South Africa a few months back. I am running it on a Dell SC430 windows machine using Windows XP SP2 and a Gig of ram. The system is really stable the only problems that I experianced is that my VST's dont work on Protools with out a wrapper application like vst to rtas, but for the basics there is nothing wrong with the RTAS shipped with the system, and the free xpand plugin was well worth the 40 euro price tag that I paid for it. My next purchase is going to be AIRS structure to replace my akai S5000 sampler

People don't realise that everything that supposedly makes Windows so unreliable is thier fault. Pro Tools will work fine under Windows, just make sure YOU dont f*** it up!

No offense, I'm just annoyed at everyone slagging of Windows because of Mac. Thier both great OS's and one of them shouldnt be put down because every amatuer under the sun tries to make stuff for it that appears to work but actually damages the OS's framework. Unless you're actually about to buy a new Computer, keep your PC. If you must have Mac, buy Mac OS X 10 and go here. It'll save you buying a new machine.

And for anyone who can't be bothered to follow the link, the "Mac" and "PC" illusion is finally destroyed.

the funny thing is, one studio had a Pro Tools rig running off a Mac which crashed as often as Win98, but the DAWs in the other room running XP were rock solid. it all comes down to compatibility and correct configuration.

so for my first post to this forum I thoguht i would offer my 2cents on this:

I run pro tools LE on a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop (2GB RAM) and my own custom studio PC and have never had any problems. The trick is to create a new hardware profile in windows for pro tools and follow exactly the system tweaks that the manual recomends (eg turn wireless cards off, make sure sleep mode is turned off etc.).
Oh and use an external hard drive to record to (standard good practice anyway).

do that and you shouldnt have any problems.

For making mash-ups in pro tools make sure you get version 7.4...the new elastic time feature is great for them!

You don'y need a MAC, a PC with enough memory, good CPU (i'm partial to AMD) and enough disk space perferrably running protools from a seperate drive than the program, is good enough.
