Help! Virus doing my head in!

Postby coojuice on Fri May 18, 2007 11:31 pm

I constantly get IE opening up to weird adds, sometimes not even a correct address, even though i'm using firefox at the time.

I had AVG Antivirus on the pc but this failed to do anything when I ran a scan so I managed to install a beta F-Secure(Im using Vista by the way) but after doing a scan it still happens.

I've also tried using Advanced Spyware Remover which removed some stuff but not this fault.

When I had AVG installed it come up saying that there was an infected file called something like"Trojan Horse Back Door 6." but couldn't remove it.

Any suggestions?

Try doing it in Safe Mode as an Administrator if you can. The old ways are sometimes the best.

Thanks for the help guys.

I downloaded spybot and done a scan and the virus seems to have gone(fingers very much crossed) but it still wont remove 3 files. Below is a photo of results:

When I try to remove them I get the following message:

"Some problems couldn't be fixed; the reason could be that the associated files are still in use(in memory).
This could be fixed after a restart.
May Spybot-S&D run on your next system startup?"

So i've tried running spybot again on start up but still get the same response.

Any ideas how to solve this part?

Again, cheers for the help so far.

Looks like a time for manual editing to get rid of them.

Try >>> AVG Anti-Spyware Free <<< as it finds some things that S+D doesn't. It does in my experience anyway.

The other thing... CCleaner gets shot of a load of crap.

Still not managed to remove the 3 files but I now have nothing popping up thanks to a free program called popgun if anyone is interested.

I heard somewhere turning of system restore to do something may remove these files. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Try it and see. System Restore is only good when something messes up after a Program install. You can easily turn it back on before installing a program.

Ill start by saying im no IT pro, but my honeymoon period with the internet and
online porn gave me some practice at removing nasties

Yes, system restore can potentially be a home for nasties. If your trying turning it off, see if you can clear all previous restore points as well.

If your getting pop ups, its possible it is a naughty activeX control installed.
Not sure about Vista, but in XP go

Disable all of them to see if this helps the problem.
I had a 'Myway Search' installed which was causing me issues.
I have no idea how to remove it but disabling it solved my problems.

tobacco slammers, is this all resolved now mate?

Reason I ask is that some little git's resurfaced this thread and it's alerted me to that question "is this still live".

If you're fixed then I'll lock this post. :)

Regards,

acapella.
