Serato is excellent for ease of use. I play recorded vinyl off my laptop with Serato but, It doesn't sounds as good a cds or vinyl.

I've gone 100% digital in the last few months.

I now only use cds/abelton.

I'm currently going through my entire record collection and transferring them all either onto cd or simply storing on the laptop for use via abelton.

Strictly CD's, used to play vinyl a couple of years ago but totally switched. Much more convenient for me Smilie_PDT

Serato all the way. Actually I've gotten to the point where I don't even bring and extra crate or two of actual vinyl.

serato. play at least four nights a week and travel to different cities. every time I would check my flight cases of records at the baggage counter I would kiss them and wonder which one would be missing or the heat from the under carriage would melt. using serato now and still using my turntables.

sold my technics, transferred them all to the laptop, then burnt on cd, bought pioneers 800mkII (just couldn't quite stretch to the 1000mkIII) and run ableton on the laptop too.

I plat out queit a bit. I use all vinyl at the moment and drop the odd cd in. I collect vinyl and for me there is something alot more satisfying about owning vinyl as aposed to a file on a computer or a cd.

I am not against using laptops and final scratch and when I have a bit of time I want to get my head into the software available at the moment as I know you can do some really creative things that cannot be acheived with vinyl.

Will always own a pair of decks and collect vinyl till the day I die though.

a common misconception that most people have is that once you go to serato or final scratch you stop collecting vinyl and throw away your turntables. not true in my case. I love to dig for rare hard to find music! and I would rather have the original record than a file any day. as a vinyl dj your record collection is like a trophy case or gives you bragging rights to tell someone you have a record that they dont!!!! now I can keep that record in the same shape as the day i bought it. and not have to worry about it getting lost in baggage while traveling. I will buy and collect vinyl til I die !!! but when I play out I use serato.

Both. You need to arm yourself if you want to stay ahead. Vinyl is great for its hands on feel but there is only so much you can do with mixer effects. I think using both formats in your set opens up all sorts of new windows.
