since 98 i suppose... 10 years, wow.
Had a few stints on radio after i won a dj comp. But never saw out my desire to dj in clubs, and then lost that desire
But outdoor festivals... that would be rad. And i might go back to radio, it's fun to share the love.
ALMOST 10 YEARS!!
LEARN TO READ A CROWD. DONT BE AFRAID TO HEAR BOOOOOO (THIS IS GONNA HAPPEN AT LEAST ONCE IN YOU LIFE) BE A PEOPLE PERSON KNOW YOUR GENRE OF MUSIC DONT BE A BEDROOM DJ FOR YEARS THINKING YOU HAVE TO PRACTICE FOREVER, THE BEST WAY TO LEARN (OR THE WAY I DID) WAS TOSS YOURSELF INTO THE FIRE OF A HOT PARTY, YOU WILL LEARN SO MUCH THAT WAY JUST MY 0.02
Been djing since i was 16 with cd players saved up my money got my turntables at 17 i just turned 21 so ive been djing for like 4 1/2 years and i learn something new everyday Djing has been the best thing to ever happen to me

I've been DJing for little over a year now. Started off learning to beatmatch with a friends pioneers but because I'm a poor college student I tried to go the cheap route and learn on my own with software based DJing (big mistake). Now I've found a decent balence with using Ableton Live an external sound card and a KP3 as a MIDI. Its still not what I eventually want to be using but it lets me put out some bangin tunes without actually being good. For the record I don't spin gigs, mostly just house parties so I'm not too ashamed of my ghetto set up =D
Since 1993, though I was only gigging seriously from 95.
Practice and listen, rinse and repeat until good... Seriously though, I would record my mixes / play-abouts and listen to them back a few days later.. you can hear all your mistakes. Think on them and work out how to improve.. then when you try again, push record and do it all again. You can actually hear your improvement this way, and work out easily which areas your struggling with. Its also a great way to learn break and drop points in new tracks and find better places to mix into / out of without having to break out the vinyl say in the car or on your mp3 player!
Re: How long have you been djing?i can remember doing a house party when i was in the 7th grade with the record player out of one of those big chests that had the 8-track player and the radio in it along with a tape deck.....man, ain't technology great

Re: How long have you been djing?I've been at it on and off (mostly on) for 22 years. I'm now 40 and started djing at 18.
Re: How long have you been djing?Wow, everyone in here seems to be so experienced
Re: How long have you been djing?10 years. As trite as it is, practice is the only thing that will really help you. You have to become one with your gear so you can have precise movements and thus, beatmatches/pitch matching. But if I were you I would switch to a computer and get into designing soundscapes more. This allows you DJ and add music of your own creation into the mix. Makes it sound like YOU and not just a DJ.
Re: How long have you been djing?about two years
Re: How long have you been djing?about 10 years...
Re: How long have you been djing?he one thing is to practice and practice . dont get frustrated...but alse you have to n-joy to play the music which makes you feel better
