Been dj'in since the summer of 2005.
not got much tips apart from learn the basics: beatmatching, using the fader etc.
And know your vinyls very well. one last thing if u dj a genre like house try and collect as many different sub genres.

iv been dj'ing for about 9 years now.i started out on vinyl then moved to cdj's now im getting into ableton live.like what everyone is saying keep at it and practice but you also need to give your ears a rest now and again.it would be hard to mix if you cant hear properly.

It's so good to be surrouned by seasoned artists.

15 years here as well. Aside from just "practice", which we all do at home... practice with an audience or record EVERYTHING for a while and play it back while driving or cleaning the house, etc.

We're probably all guilty of poor practice and backing up tracks when we make mistakes. Of course, we don't do that live, so doing that at home isn't always in our best interests. Alot of really cool grooves are bred from mistakes and accidents. Roll with it.

And from above - I, personally, think that vinyl is the only way to start... but this is a new generation. Get what you can afford and move on from there. The general mechanics are universal:

how fast... when do I start... when does it stop... rinse and repeat.

Best of luck to the newcomers. YOU ARE OUR FUTURE!

21 years. started in 86 learning on belt driven turntables and rotary mixer with no x-fader.

no amount of bedroom practicing can prepare you for actually playin in front of people. as often as you can, play in front of people, be it 1or 100. practice stuff then...

if you have any older relatives that are into music, check out their record collection. may be some gems there...
