Hey folks,

Has anyone had any experience running PC software (particularly pro-audio gear) on an intel apple using Bootcamp? (checkout: http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/ for info. and download).

I am looking to upgrade my compu and would seriously like an apple laptop (with an intel core duo chipset, of course) for day-to-day usage. My dilemma is that for audio I am currently windows-based. I am hoping Win XP on Bootcamp will be compatible with my current audio software, as well as allow my TASCAM US-122 to record MIDI and audio inputs.

Cheers

i didn't try it myself but from what i heard from colleagues and magazines, there's no problem running an intel mac like a powerful windows-machine.

the other opportunity Parallels is reported to struggle with some latency issues but bootcamps runs native, just like a pc.

Bootcamp works great and supports everything that i'm aware of. parallels on the other hand is not what you need to be looking at because of the way everything is split up between osx and windows (not to mention that usb support in xp is spotty). i haven't run anything hot and heavy like audition, photoshop, ect. but it holds up really well.

but do know that the limit on bootcamp beat is coming up. after the date you will most likely have to pay to keep using it (barring illegal methods).

yes, it is possible but it's far from perfect. bootcamp itself is still beta and the generated driver are for xp so there can be failures especially with peripherie like usb, fw etc..
a friend runs it on a macmini 1.83 and it's quite stable. it's not very comfortable but it works..

Works fine, but I had big problems in the beginning with the audio, very skippy and Cubase didnt run stable. The solution was a Windows fix for intel dual core cpus. Now works fine, except some mac-specific keyboard features.
