well actually in this case it does because the macbooks are portible (laptop) and are on intel technology hence being called Mac Intels.
The G5 is still on ppc technology (which i personally still prefer) and never went to laptop. so it's a towerPC (as it were...PC means personal computer fyi)
If you just want a standard computer that will provide a solid foundation for which you can record and manipulate stuff (to what i understand would be at a basic level) and simply burn CD's
Dude, you're better off getting a Dell.
I'd be more helpful if you actually put in more detail into what exactly you wan't. Clearly you're after a mac, but WHY? (probably because they look pretty and so n so told you that you gotta get a mac just coz...) and what exactly do you need the mac to do as standard...
It aint rocket science to be more specific |

| a macbook is going to be alot faster than the g5, especially the core 2 duos (the newest processor). they apparently scream. the only upgrade which you are going to need either way is an external hard drive which can be had for about 100$ depending on how much space you need. i have a core duo macbook pro and it works really well. |

| ^ and ideally, a RAM upgrade if you're going to be doing anything music recording related. Although, not from the Apple site itself, I'd reccomend www.jigsaw24.com |

You say a lot faster...but that will only affect software that is in Universal Binary....other's that are still on the ppc platform won't be able to fully utilise the mac intel platform just yet.
Still....there's a lot to consider if you want a portable laptop or a stationary desktop. |

definitely a good point about the UB and ppc stuff. i'm new to mixing but i know my computers, and the majority of the software you will probably run into will be U(niversal)B(inary).
If I had to do everything over again, I would have gotten a smaller macbook and gone with a custom PC as a tower. laptops are definitely not an end all solution. |
