Hi everyone. I want to upgrade my os from 10.2.8 to 10.4.6 so I can take full advantage of live 6. I currently use cubase sx2. Is sx2 compatible with 10.4.6? thanks for any help.

it should all be fine.

however you will need to buy the 10.0.0 CD first then carry on online updates to 10.4.8 (which is the latest version)...you can't just go through the updates online.

Leopard's going to be out soon....*gets itchy fingers*

right now leopard is a bit underwhelming. some of the features might be useful like spaces for having an editor open and then having other windows without have to manually switch between them.

Leopard looks pretty darn cool in some ways. The 'Time Machine' especially, seeing as I always end up deleting stuff in a hurry and wishing I hadn't later. Would be really useful for impatient people like myself.

no the multi-desktop thing called spaces is like what they have had for linux for ages. theres no easy way to really explain it, but the idea is that you have x number of desktops that you set up. then through this nifty interface you can switch between the desktops and have tons of stuff running at the same time.

(if that didnt make sense, which it probably didnt)http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/spaces.html

Ah yeah gotcha....i vaguely remember reading that a while ago...kinda forgot about it.
I'm sure there will be some better things in Leopard...whilst i haven't really bothered looking at Vista, i doubt it'll dent Leopard all that much.

from my understanding you can upgrade with no real fear of losing any of your stuff. but a good backup is always a good thing ;)

Yeah you can archive your existing system and it will run through the updated OS.
I personally clean out my powerbook with every upgrade (that's since 10.2) gives it a new lick of paint so to speak.

besides music, I think I will probably clear out most of my mbp if i upgrade to leopard.

but there seriously is a lack of features that really has me counting the days (other than not having to pay to run bootcamp, which i'm sure will be cracked within hours)

i'm a windows switcher of about 9 months and i'm not as familiar with osx as i am with xp (or any windows system for that matter) so i install alot of programs just to try out. needless to say, they all take their toll one way or another on the system. i was very familiar with the registry and the inner workings of windows and i could diagnose and fix virtually any problem, but on a mac im still somewhat of a noob...

ah well when you delete a program on mac it's a lot more simpler. you just need to get familiar with the library, preferences and prefpane files and that's that..the software is gone, except for a few niggles but that won't affect your computer's performance at all...unless you've cracked iLok (nasty nasty business if you don't know what you're doing).

Jesus F christ they've gone up a step with a dongle now?!...i've avoided iLok like a plague when i messed up my max/msp authorisation codes..
Basically it used to be just a piece of software that was/is used for authorisation and it's pretty hardcore compared to the usual bits and bobs. so if you bugger it up, it'll not be a simple problem to fix if you dunno what ya doing.

i've played with some pretty hardcore encryption before and so far i'm less than adequately impressed by most protection schemes. a 20,000$ graphics suite is cracked by a few lines of command line and a keygen. i wonder if theres a way to convert a regular usb key into a dongle of sorts...
