Does anyone know how to set the sample to play only where you write the bar? Say for instance, I want to bring in the Bd file in the vintage folder from the Fruity Loops bank. I write the bars were I want the bass to be triggered. A few of the bars are close together so I don't want the full sample to play. I want it to stop exactly where the bar stops. That way there is no conflictions. I notice that the sample is triggered correctly, but keeps playing the sound even after the bar ends. How can you change this setting?
I know that some of the samples in the fruity loop banks at set up to only play and stop only where the bar is. Like Basslines and Pads. I hope someone can understand what I'm am talking about... its kind of hard to explain with words. |

| Yeah, that is good advise. I have done that in the past and had satisfactory results.... but that does not actually make it play and stop exactly how long each bar is. Basically by adjusting the volume envelope, you are just causing the sample's volume to be turned down. And each bar that triggered the sample would play the same length of the sample regardless how short or long the bar was. I want it to respond the same as if you push a key on a keyboard... once you let go, the sound stops. That way some bars would play longer than others and some would be cut short. |

| Yeah me too. I am at work as well. I will have to go mess around with the envelopes again after I get office. My experience in the past was.... that did not effect the sample playing only on the painted bars. There most be a way to do what I what it to do. Like I said before, some of the other samples that came with fruity loop is set up to only play were you paint the bars.... they don't continue to play the whole sample. |

sounds to me like your trying to use a sample as an instrument. its like trying to make one of those snare drums hold a note for a long time. you cant because they are samples. i'm guessing you are using some kind of bass sample like the Slap Bass. As far as i know, you cant make it longer or shorter by adjusting the bars in the piano roll. every time it reads the start of a bar, it plays the entire sound reguardless of where you place the ending of the bar. | Thats correct. The sample I am using is a 808 bass - BD_Vintage. I know there is no way to extend a sample in the the piano roll... but I don't see any reason why a sample can't be set not to play the whole sample. Some of the bassline and pad samples in the browser seem to be set up that way. |

| well, i have tried it before. you can make it just one small square in the piano roll and it will still play the whole damn thing. it sucks, i know. what fruity loops version do you have? |

Go to Channel settings, INS, VOL, ATT to the left, DEC to the left, SUS to the left, and HOLD a little bit to the left, now the sample will play as long the length of the bar is...
Play with the settings and it works.. |
