Both. nuff said.
unfortunately Djing is still somewhat a male dominated area so females are usually subjected to being sex icons first then their skills are looked at next.

Not enough female DJ's are given the chance to 'shine' as it were as they are usually dwarfed by their male counterparts.

Also if more females DJ'd i'm sure there would be plenty dominating.

I will put my hand up and agree 100%. Music doesn't know any boundaries, it's the people that do their boundaries, and sadly many females seem to think it's only males who do DJ'ing, but it's good to see they are wrong and the female of the species should be encouraged.

More women DJ's please, because they're good enough and it is'nt about competition... men vs women, just the skills. Smilie_PDT

Both have the potential to be the same & female DJs definetly might dominate if there were more of them. The fact is that as you grow up society teaches you how to express yourself. More girls play strings, woodwinds, sing, & cheerlead in high school. More guys play percussion, guitar, brass, & join the football team. Same with DJing - its not a masculine thing to do but it generally falls under the things that guys pick up.

I do have to agree with everything that has been said. It is still such a male dominated profession and it's a shame that gender and looks always seem to paly a major part rather than sheer skills and brilliance at knowing when and what to play. After all shouldn't it be about the club bringing in the punters and if a female can do it, why not.
WE NEED TO GIVE US WOMEN A BETTER CHANCE Smilie_PDT

Female DJ = Great mixing skills and a passion for music NOT the size of her waist or boobies or if she has long hair or short hair.
Just my 2 pence on the matter Cheesy Grin

is this a serious question...?

i'm a female dj in the industry, and the fact that you even brought this up, phases me...

its like who's a better cook, men or women
or who's a better salesperson, ...

it has nothing to do with gender...
altho many women do use their assets to get ahead, lol...

i really think this thread should be deleted, its pointless.

work hard and anything is possible, whoever you may be.

I don't think this is a pointless thread, nor do i think it should be deleted.
Being a female house/breaks/dnb dj myself I like seeing topics like this being debated on as people's view points on this issue (let's not beat about the bush, it is still very much prominent that there's a gender bias) will differ vastly.

As you have shown very well.

Obviously the whole who's better is a bit immature but one would hope that we'd see over that and concentrate on the main issue of if/when more female DJ's come out of the works will they rise above the usual 'iconic' value we seem to have been tarnished with?

As you were...

I've gotta say then in my expierience, and I'm in the Scratching and beat juggling culture, when you see a female whos really serious, alot of guys take notice, alot more quickly than a typical guy thats into it.

Technicly women should be better DJs, their minds are able to process 2 sounds at the same time...

where as us guys can only process one... we simply use different sences to pick up the other...

(little test for ya if you think I`m being mental... get 2 people to say 2 different words at the same time in each ear...

galls should be able to recall both, guys will try to recall both, cos they hate the fact women can do something they cant...Smilie_PDT )

but yea, I`m all for women in music...
Ive tought a few to mix, and I know I`d want them to do well...

The only thing that bugs me is they think they have to be like men to succed..

I dont really see it as changing anything if women have to act like men to get places...

guess I`ll have to wait and see wot the future brings... I know I like having a few females around here... Val, Juggs et all... makes a change from boys bin boys...

(dunno if that made me sound more gay or slimey...Smilie_PDT)

....i'd like to say something, really i would. But sound engineering a band today put me in a fairly fowl mood so i guess i'll not vent out here.

I'm going to go get a cup of camomile tea and a cookie instead.

mrjynx....i'm not all to sure about the "they think they have to be like men" to succed thing. I think there's more of an issue in regards to be liked by men. If we tried to portray ourselves in the image of man (...) we'd probably be labelled as 'butch'. so rather we are portrayed as the eyecandy that 'can actually mix'.

But that's all slowly changing. i mean look at Ms (mrs?!) Nightingale...or even Anne mac. both totally AWESOME female dj's and they're up there with bringing in new dance music and whatever else they want to play to the masses before they hit the Ibiza circuit.

"I think there's more of an issue in regards to be liked by men"

I think its a complicated issue, as Val said, women want to be given a chance, but wot do they want people to see?

that theyre musically talented?

If you look at it that way, then does being a woman really make a difference, I mean there are enough mediums to get heared today...

A good song or set is just good, regardless of who made it..

But if they want to be recognised as female musicians, then i think looks and femininity do start getting dragged into it...

In a way you dont see ugly guys in boy bands... but you do see ugly musicians & you listen to their music because its good music...

(I`m pretty tired so that may have come out as jibberish, there was a point in there somewhere...lol)

I think over all, there just arnt enough female DJs to hold up the side... The last women I saw in a record store was a DJs girlfriend...

I dont know any club owner who would have a problem with putting a woman on if she was good... But I cant remember the last time I had a woman come to me asking to play in my club...

I just think its like juno says, there arnt that many cos different its not typically something girls do...

but anyway, in answer to the original post, i just think its a stupid question...
