CD's for me. I live in tampa and would have to drive 1 hr to Orlando to find a store that has a reasonal supply of Vinyl. Then you gotta buy 2 of them. (ouch) I go with CD's for the price...I ain't rich...
CD vs Vinyl - my answerCDs for gays and jerkz..
Vinyl for the real playa'z... fukk all those CD and MP3 DJ'zz...
I personally love the feel and control of vinyl. I have discovered with some of the locals who are straight up CDDJs, they depend on the crutches that the CD decks give them, such as the BPM counters built into the CDJ 800/1000.
Around my area though, its nearly impossible to find a club that actually uses the CDJs. I know it sounds weird, but its true. Mainly vinyl here.
vinyls are way better to scratch with but cds are easyer to use.
you can get almost any song on cd however vinyls might take you months to find
^^ one format will dominate IMHO. It won't be CD or Vinyl, probably not even a traditional laptop. You'll have your tunes on a storage medium (hardrive or similar) and pick your preferred controller(s) / control surface. knobs, keys, pads, turntable emulation but not a true turntable ...
maybe even .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h-RhyopUmc
that rectable is a very interesting piece but after listening to it for 10-15 min i was beginning to wonder what the hell are they doing and y? That's technology 4 ya though
Vinyl!!!
HAD TO POST A COMMENT
CD's all the way for ease of use (the fact you can make your own tune bounce it down and play it out all in the same day) and to save ur back!
So glad to see the amount of people still supporting vinyl!
I own a record shop in the south of England, and have to say that personally I prefer mixing most dance music on CDJ1000's - there really isn't any other CD Player that comes close. All the other music I play; from Funk, Soul and Jazz through to UK Hiphop etc sounds far far better on vinyl, and is more enjoyable to mix that way. Serato.... Still haven't used it! Want to soooo badly!
I use both vinyl and cd's and well with vinyl you really got the feel, whereas with cd's you haven't, but with cd's you can make loops and so on. If you want the true dj feel, buy turntables, if you want functionability, buy cd-platers.
Vinyl VS Cdj'sPersonally i have used both and own a few of each, vinyl to me is a more old school look but i find has a feel to it that cd just doesnt have, but with cdj's you can do a lot more in a littler amount of time.. there's always going to be the war of vinyl vs cd's but to me, it's a matter of were in the digital age now vinyl will never go out but it will fade out as well as cdj's when programs like ableton take over.
so really each has its pros and cons its really what the DJ feels more comfortable using. ![]()
I've heard this so many times but I'm sorry I just can't accept it. I recently saw Marshall Jefferson when he played a gig here in Edinburgh.. he played exclusively from cd and do you think anyone bothered?? It's the same at my residencies - cd only. No one cares about is the dj playing vinyl or cd (or even laptop) you go out clubbing for the atmosphere which is created by the music and the people around you - not by the format used by the dj. Yeah MP3's are the way to go now I think. I have DJed since the early 90's and still love my 1200's and crackly vinyl but lets face it, get a rock solid laptop and some quality software and you can DJ and remix live. Plus if you give a club the heads up you can probably get their soundman to plug you in and use both.
Depends on what you mix...
Some styles sound much better on vinyl Where I live (Holland) all DJ's of harder styles, like Hardcore, Hardstyle, Jump , are using vinyl. Sometimes they are also using 1 CDJ, because some songs don't come on vinyl. But the main thing: VINYL ![]()
See this kind of post in many forums. Guess it depends on how much money you have to spend, what kind of music you play and do you want to scratch. I got some Technics 1210's and would never part with them although vinyl is just getting more and more expensive these days. A lot of the record stores are closing down (especially in London, Berwich St, etc) and I'm paying £6-£7 for new tunes off websites like Chemical and Knowhow. Depends how serious you are about it all. Serato is also another good option..... Hope this helps
