Internet Explorer VS. FireFox

Postby Seanza on Wed Nov 01, 2006 12:19 am

Can people tell me why they like one better than the other?

Alot of people on here shout about how good FF is. They never say why though lol! It displays incorrectly, it's a pain in the back side & unless you're running on Windows 2000 or earlier then it's nowhere near better than IE.

May a suggest you get IE 7.0 & try it atleast before you make a judgement just because it's Microsoft & it's IE.

So basically a like IE because it's nicer to ma PC & looks better. What's professional about a fox? Not alot of people like foxes anyways lol!

Hopefully this will be a big dispute!*

Peace

Fair enough people, enjoyed reading your views & you guys do have a lot of Valid points. But yes it is each to their own.

IE loads fine on ma PC, speeds are fine, av got no problems with how it looks. It's what it does.

FF does have a poor display for MySpace, profiles are completely different.

As for this site best being viewed using FF might be true but it's terrible for actually trying to get logged on! Well for me anyways (as some of you may know lol!).

Now, av not used Opera, not even heard of it TBH lol. Sounds interesting though. Might give it a try. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it right?

Peace

For me it's easy, Firefox is fast (very fast with the extension fasterfox), extensions (can't live without them), better script control, it displays most CSS correct (not like IE), again the extensions and of course the themes.
I can't live without FF today. And if Myspace profiles are showing up bad it's probably because of crappy CSS code ;)

Got Opera today. Excuse Ma "french" here but it effin' amazing!

Displays EVERYTHING perfectly doesn't even have an annoying loading bar at the bottom.

Thankyou to Dork & lancaster12 for recommending it!

If you haven't tried it people, then try it!

BUT, am having some problems with adding Plug-ins onto it. It just tells me a need a plug-in so a click to get it then a page displaying an FAQ about Plug-ins opens up in a new tab. Any info?

not sure if people are aware but there is an extension that allows you to view pages using IE engine inside of Firefox for pages that don't render correctly...

& Operas Dammned fast innit ? :D
But I still like the fastfox :) I like my themes and extentions :)

Basically a blank page pops up. It has black text in the top left-hand corner saying "plug-in required" so a click on it then am taken to an FAQ.

Does anyone know id Opera works on Windows 2000? It's not working on these PCs at work.

I think what finally sold it for me was the install process...
Firefox installs in no time at all & doesn't try to force you to install crap you don't want.

When I tried to install IE7 it took bloody ages, then crashed the computer and changed all my modem settings so I couldn't connect anymore. Thanks, but no thanks Microsoft!!

For me it's all about the tabs at the top. Who wants hundreds of 'new windows'?
IE users must have enough of that, what with all the ads popping up as well!

Ahhh, a was hoping someone would say that lol! IE 7.0 has tabs, and IE 6.0 had tabs too aslong as you had the right toolbar.

But now IE & FF are out the window for me! Opera is the way to go! The best feature in Opera apart from the speed and layout is the way it returns to the page you left it on when you closed it down. Pure genius, especially for people who always click [x] on their browser by accident!

That sounds like me, always close the page! I'll have to check Opera out.

PS, I never knew about the tabs on IE, but still prefer Firefox!

Am just getting used to Opera so am sticking with that for now.

Why might a appreciate a spell-checker lol?

And why spend time configuring something when you can have something better, faster & does it all for you?

Alot of people may not be computer literate and will have next to no idea how to configure anything so that kinda seems like a pointless 'plus' point.

Each to their own a guess and that's why am stickin' with Opera :D

Firefox has an addon to render pages using the explorer engine

you can also run a version of portable firefox off of a thumbdrive and take it wherever you want and it will keep your plugins, user credentials, everything

What you can do with any browser or other application for that matter is export your settings onto your thumb drive and load the settings onto another computer which has the same application.

*if* that application is installed or *if* you have the rights on the machine to install a new application

you grab the portable version of firefox and there is no installation required at all, all you have to do is plug your usb drive in and run the app, no fiddling with importing or anything

Not all computers have enough USB drives, that's ma arguement lol!

Personally, that feature wouldn't come in handy for me, not sure about others though.

100% agree, it's much more user-friendly, efficient and totally customizable. Some users create fantastic Widgets which are fun and useful!

lancaster12 wrote:although one of the cons to firefox and opera is that websites such as myspace are distorted and messed about.

clear example: myspace.com/nick_lancaster
where the top banners have been pushed down if viewed in opera or firefox.

Just viewed that MySpace on Opera and IE, both seemed the same to me. With FireFox, the view becomes narrowed and has "borders" at the side which is very annoying lol!

*comes in running*
IE is NOT W3C compliant, which is a pain in the arse (for me anyway) when making web sites/pages...especially with CSS.
There are other browsers that probably aren't W3C compliant, but their userbase is by far smaller than that of IE.
Mozilla browsers all the way

I'm sorry *stops running*

Aye i've got a few browsers: Opera, IE *shudders*, Safari, Netscape and FF.
need to check sites in all of them and IE is BY FAR the biggest headache.

Opera (like FF) is a bit processor hungry which is fine, but for normal brainless browsing i'm paritial to safari
