everybody knows that there are 2 different kinds of DJ's
1. Party Dj's: play and mix music live @ a party
2. Producer DJ's: make some music with the pc at home
Im a sample of the second.
But Both of them use samples to make their music interesting, funny or whatever. And i like to know where they get all those stuff from.
Cause samples and acapella's is the stuff that makes a great DJ.
Cheers! |

Call yourself a Dj when you only make music with your pc ?????

SKILLs make a great Dj.
might change point 2 with "Scratch-Dj or Turntablist: don't just simple play and mix records or call themself Djs because they mix acappelas and instrumentals with their Pc, but make music with their tables+mixer".
Basicly there are 3 kinds: good, bad, fake
example of a good: http://youtube.com/watch?v=L9_BvFSt4DA
example of a bad: just search youtube.
example of a fake: computer "djs". |

a computer dj is more like a producer
but i call it also a DJ
cause you need a certain experience to create music with a pc.
Its not so simple as you think
But what i saw there, was really good.
i think you need more experience to do that. Than to create music with a pc.
BTW: do you know some sites with typical hardstyle en jumpstyle refills? |

Yeah producer is the right word.
And i know it's not simple to mix on a computer. Tried it Definetly nothing you can do without playing around and learning. But no comparsion to the effort it takes to become a good scratch-dj, even mix-dj.
Actually i have no clue what "typical hardstyle en jumpstyle" is , but i think you might take a look at the official refills on propellerheads site. |

a producer is for me not a dj...
thomas anderson was at a club in my town and it was very bad... the notebook has shuting down 6 or 7 times @ his turn...
I'm a Dj and i work on 2 turntabels and 1 cd-player at the same time.
the cd player is only 4 Acapellas and Samples...
my respect for all people they produce, for me it is to complcated.

Some of the greatest DJ's are now using software. DJing isn't all about skills and technique, although they are needed, a great DJ drops tracks into thier mixes and tells a story through their music.
Whether you use vinyl, cd or mp3 it's about track selection and getting the dancers to come into your world. A world that you the dj has created a world that only you the dj can take other people to.
There are plenty of samples around google is a good search facility, I've found plenty through google. Good luck. |

He produces beats and remixes on his computer so whats the point to laugh bout that?
A Dj is someone who recreates the music that already exists. Like scratching, choppin or just remix a song with acapella and beat.
So i think u r one of those "djs" who sratch the funk outta the vinyls and call yaself the allmighty dj, dont cha?
Man u gotta see the other things you can do without scratching.
The Dj today does more to the music than simply scratch and know how to use a turntable.
The todays dj's r producers too. YOu gotta do ya own thing to keep it real.
Almost every producer uses MPC in combination with a pc.
The PC and software has become the biggest point cause there hasnt been such an easy way to cut and arrange samples/songs/music/remixes/... before.
I didnt use any "hardware" for a long time but now i also will buy an AKAI MPC 2500 to get the realest beats and stuff.
Especially ya last three kinds of djs show that u got no respect and really dont have any idea bout what a dj is.
You got problems in real life? Well maybe u shouldnt reflect em on this site or community.
All HE wanted to know is a place for samples.
But dont get me wrong. Dont wanna offend u. Just think it's bad to see someone askin a question and another one totally makes fun of it. Its just lame. u know?!
@walytje
I get my samples out of other songs but also use VSTs to make the instruments sound like real ones.
A lot of digital samples that r included in the software sound like s**t almost every time.
they got that plastic attitude
Like i said u can get samples by cuttin em out of existing songs or u can buy/get em on the internet.
When u got fruity loops u should have a look at samplefusion - as when u logged in to the fl studio homepage u can download for free.
Another great site for VSTi samples is: http://www.kvraudio.com/
U get real stuff there to make the sounds very realistic.
And dont forget -> hell yeah you r producer/dj/whatever u wanna be ...

DJ = Disk Jockey so in theory you're right about someone who sits at a PC not being a proper DJ.
But a know alot of real DJs who make music on their PC/Mac. They have their equipment setup into their system.
Unless walytje means DMJ = Digital Music Jockey (which is something a just made up this minute lol!
But it is samples which help a DJ (of any sort) to become what they are. Ofcourse skill is required. But that's standard.

I assume you didn't read my post carefully. I never said that only Djs that scratch are real Djs. Just that producing tracks with your computer isn't djing + even if you got the dopest acapellas and the best samples, you won't produce good stuff without skills, and technique - i admit not in the nicest way.
| djpuente wrote: |

Just because many of todays Djs produce too, doesn't mean that a producer is a dj - vice versa. Get a dictionary and look up for the term "Dj".

He started his question with a statement. I responded to that. Easy.

DDr. med. univ. phil. you should hold a reading at Harvard. Seems you got great knowledge in terms of "judging someones mental condition by reading 4 sentences written on the net". That's like i assume you are a mentaly retarded infant, just because you wrote that above.

Again, yes the part with the laughing smily in my response wasn't very nice - but yours........ woooow

Boys, boys, calm down. We are all entitled to our opinions. Whatever each individual uses to either dj or produce shouldn't even come into the equator. As long as we can get the punters to that's the main thing that counts.
I do my mixing only on my pc and let me tell you if I get them downloaded by Pete Tong then software is fine by me. I keep saying it's also about track selection. You can have a dj whose skills and mixing are ace but if he/she don't select the tracks in harmony/unison they may as well be like someone whose never attempted mixing before.
Loads of dj's go onto becoming great producers, it's just built in some people and if anyone should know what people want, that is a dj. This always gives them an advantage with thier producing.
Now lets just sit down and have a good discussion, let's not get hot under the collar, k? |

Music is music, doesn't matter how its made, doesn't matter what someone claims to be. The music has been made & if it sounds good, there's no problem right?
This post isn't about what a DJ is. It's about where he can find good samples. Av got an email from a friend of mine which has about 12 links to sample sites. Al see if a can dig it out & al post them up when a get home. That's about as much help a can be. If you have a Torrent Client (i.e. BitTorrent, Bit Lord or uTorrent) you might be able to download a whole bunch of Sample Packs from www.mininova.com or another Torrent Hosting site. Just do a Google search to find them.

Maybe i got 2 or three sentences in ma post that havent been real stark and fine but i still think ya post wasnt that fair.
But lets get over it ^^
Im cool with it.

Not trying to rekindle flames but ...
To me a DJ is an expert in listening to music. There is too much music out there. Seriously. I will never be able to listen to and appreciate all of it. So I listen to what DJ's have sorted out, like all the people at a party. So to be a DJ, you don't need scratching skills (performance), or computer skills (production). Just love for music and confidence in what you add to your playlist. So you can answer the question: "What is hardstyle?" with examples, rather than opinions.
Now I know you all shook on it to let it rest, and I respect that, but I had to share my POV. Thanks for reading... |
