I am a musician, a former rave dj, and a producer. From experience I have to say that Val is right about what a dj is. A producer can most simply be defined as someone who creates original music. A dj utilizes original music to produce original "mixes" but does not produce original "musical pieces" per se. Even a remix can be considered original, as usually they contain much original material and redefine the entire aesthetic expression of the original piece. Mash-ups, especially if they don't contain many new augmentations, are borderline. A dj may not be using vinyl or even turntables anymore, but if their end product is essentially the same as what a vinyl turntablist would deliver...then we must call them a dj. And hell yes music made on a computer is real music. I consider my electronic production to be far more significant than my guitar work even though I have been playing for twenty years and have become quite skilled. They are different but just as substantial.

"people" who make music on the computer are called producers....I don't know why they'd have to be DJ's

Mix-tape DJs are huge in United States.....they are all about exclusive jointz. Its all about Who u know rather then What you know. What do u have to say about that? I really dont want to refer them as either a DJ nor Producer. I would rather refer them as a promoter.

everybody knows that there are 2 different kinds of DJ's

1. Party Dj's: play and mix music live @ a party

2. Producer DJ's: make some music with the pc at home

Im a sample of the second.
But Both of them use samples to make their music interesting, funny or whatever. And i like to know where they get all those stuff from.
Cause samples and acapella's is the stuff that makes a great DJ.

Cheers!

Thats Because when they are on a party they have a sort of concert.... but it is based on the same actually.... just that hey make complete loops and samples when the are on a party.... so i would not say that it is not 2 diffrent types of DJ's

who cares about the damn word useage, DJ, DMJ, Producer, Creator, Wielder of Remixing Abilities, i dont care what the name is, the point is that you should hold the same respect for people who use digital or analog because either way its shaping music together, the very idea of what a dj is.
