If you have heard any DIPSET songs, you hear that low pitched chick voice in the back in almost every song, how can I do that to a vocal acapella, what im trying to do is remix that song by 50cent. Best Friend, im trying to make it unique so ima take olivias vocals, chop them down and change the pitch and use it for background vocals.

The problem is when i set the pitch lower the voice gets faster, are you supposed to use a different effect or do you set the pitch then change the tempo of the acapella also? if someone can send me a PM reply to this question itll be nice, i suck at production so yeah im learnin still

Hi yungprophecy1,

It would be helpful if ya' could tell us what software you are attempting this in...

Explaination:

Normally if you simply change the Pitch via simple tempo means you get what is commonly referred to as the munchkin effect. So the faster the track is played the higher the pitch goes.Ending up sounding like a munchkin....or a chipmunk on drugs. The slower the tempo the lower the pitch untill it sounds like Darth Vader...on a bad mobile phone connection.

Solution :

In short you need a tool called "pitch shift"...this alters the pitch without altering the tempo.

Then to alter the tempo without altering the pitch...you use a tool called "timestetch"..

If you post some more details...hopefully we can sort ya' out a specific answer.

yea well i got these softwares
-sony acid 6.0 pro
-soundforge 8
-audacity (ofcourse)
-adobe audition 1.5

so i can work with any of those, yeah i need something like that sort of sound, i think i got it

1 more question...
can u tell me a way i can use the formant effect, in other words you know sing out a chorus and make it sound like a female singing it. I would like to basically record the lyrics for the chorus and alter them with the effect so it sounds as if a female sang the chorus, cuz i cant find a female who can hold her tone properly lol

out that little list of programs, i would use acid 6.0 if i was you...

bring in your sample, acapella... to the mix/project then it may ask you if you want to beatmap it... you do, so click yes..

get your mappin n that sorted, then after that paint in your pella/sample where ever you want it, right click on the parts and go to clip properties you should notice a box that says " Preserve pitch when stretching " tick it.. if its already ticked then things are fine Smilie_PDT

theres other options there too, like the mode... this is really to let you fine tune the pitch change compensation process, depending on what your using you'll find an option to suit you, its all really to do with how the samples chopped up an squashed back together, trial and error should let you find the mode more suited to what your wanting...

well now you've got your pella set to the original pitch, going at the desired tempo... you should see another option in the clip properties " pitch shift "

not going to patronise you with telling you what to do from there, should be all straightforward enough now Smilie_PDT

hopefully thats been of some help to you m8...well i better finish geting ready for college so

til nxt time...

andymac

Very useful reply, djandymac thanx...I'm a wavelab man myself...so it's great to have someone around who can navigate Acid..

Formants :

The chances of finding a good cheap/free formant altering plugin is pretty slim i'm afraid. Acid will probably have a rudimentary implementation in it's pitch shift dialogue..so have a look. You will want to offset the formant by approx + 5 to 10 % and up the pitch 1 octave to achieve a female vocal effect.

Now i don't usually recommend Waves plugin's - but in this case i'm gonna have to. Waves ultrapitch will do what you're looking for but it's horribly expensive...Also Celemony melodyne might also do it - but don't quote me on that!

I'll browse around and see what's availiable for ya...but don't hold your breath...for that kind of technology - you will have to pay a fair amount for it.. Crying or Very Sad

Audacity is actually pretty good at this. Smilie_PDT Use Effect>Change Speed, Change Tempo, Or Change Pitch.

thats impossible, audacity is free, there has to be a plugin for sonic foundry though, because that it one of the most common production softwares used, i can also get a hand of some steinberg softwares as such as wavelab and cubase but they are way too difficult for me so thats why im stickin with sonyacid n foundry
