Sony Sound Forge can also do this, I believe. Which app is "better"? I guess it probably doesn't make a difference since the procedure is the same?

Thanks! I'll have to follow your lesson through a few more times until I have it locked in the ol' noggin but this was awesome! In addition to the steps listed, I used Effects > Special > Mastering to get the vocal volume up cleanly. I'm real happy with this :D

Thanks again for the great post!

djfieldy - I'm using Audacity 3.0 as well ... the only difference for me was that I had to select the effects from the Effects dropdown menu. To select the left or right side of the track click on the far bottom or top of the wave field respectively (When you hover over the correct area you'll get an [ R ] or an [ L ] icon) Feel free to PM me if you're stuck on anything in particular!

Yeh I had Adobe Audition for a while but I kinda got lazy with it. Your method seems complicated though, or maybe it's just me being lazy lol. Good looks homie!

Any more tips on cleaning it up once you've finished clearing the background noise, as i'm still getting the odd dirty noise coming through which slightly spoils my effort! Almost there though, so thanks a lot for the easy to follow guide.
The filnal clearing up might be possible in the new melodyne DNA. Import an audio sample with multiple sounds and it extracts each individual note that is editable. I dont think it out yet but im sure will get an e-mail upon release. Have been using the melodyne studio version which is really good for changing the melodies of the accapellas. The creativity is endless.
Ill try it out once and once i have, will post the feedback.

Very good tutorial!
Though it's really hard to remove the audio in the same frequencies as the vocals, but they're barely audible when you mix it with a lot of stuff. Thanks!

Hmm don't know if it was the track I choosed but it don't work for me. There've just been adding some kind of reverb on the vocal, and flanger. But I will try with another track, to see if it's better =)

Holy s**t, I was able to make an acapella from John O'Callaghan's Never Fade Away song and despite the fact that the highs are lacking a LITTLE, it sounds amazing and I've gotten rid of 95% of the background noise.

I'll be attempting to master this. Thanks!!!

I dont know how yall be doing this with adobe audition when I try to zoom in its like u can only see so much.. Do you chop up parts into smaller pieces because once you try to zoom in on adobe audition and slightly move to the left or right all is lost from a visual standpoint.

Does anyone know if Adobe AUdition 3.0 is more efficient, or does the version not affect its performance, but only number of extra features?
