I have been spinning vinyl for 12 years, so I have some background to speak from. Ableton gives unprecedented control over music. I can play any song I can think of, rearrange tracks, remove parts that I don't like, take good beats out of boring songs, and so forth. If you are using Ableton, and using it like a traditional DJ setup (2-4 decks, play the whole song, etc...) then you are seriously under-utilizing this tool. Check out some live recordings (my first few, I am still getting the hang of the software) at http://www.mixdepot.net/briandervish
The "Live at the Vault" has a little Eagles and Ted Nugent, the "Cavestock" set has some Sly and the Family Stone and a Chris Rock standup. You see what I mean? |

im a amateur desktop dj, although all of a sudden im getting people adding me on myspace saying that my mixes are mad, and where do i play?........
But most recently a well known Melbourne DJ sent me a message with a few tips for my bootlegs, and recommended Ableton Live...
I've had a look on the ableton website and it definitely looks like a powerful program.. especially more so than Acid! And from what i can gather all you guys rate it highly... but would you recommend it to someone who's only doing this as a hobby (at this stage?)
here's a link to my most recent mix..

| I love Abelton. The possibilties of sound creation is awesome. I think that they could put a few more things in it to make it work better as a live dj platform. As it is, it is still awesome. |

| Playing live I've not used it yet. just starting to get the hang of it (not too hard) at home. It's a nice extra for a set, but I feel it should not BE the set... |
