Ableton's excellent. The only major drawback is the amount of harddrive space it takes if you're going to have a decently long set--all of the clips are stored as .wavs, which take up a lot of space on my meager 100GB laptop harddrive. Anyone have suggestions to keep the storage overhead down?

Never used Ableton for live DJ use. I do use it for all my production though. I also have Pro-Tools and Logic but prefer ableton over them all. What are the advantages of using Ableton to DJ?

I am an enthusiastic user of Live both in the studio and on stage. I have only recently started using Live as a dj Tool although i have been using the program in the studio since version 3. I also recently bought an M audio x session pro usb dj mixer ( a score for like 50 pounds ) and i can assign tracks to A n B and then midi assign the x session's crossfader and other parameters. To say the least its a whole lot of fun and the possibilities are fantastic. My two cents...Space
although i was just at a party where the djs were using seratto and it looks sweet the bed also,,,,horses for corses

i use ableton live 6 with my M-Audio X-session pro, works nice, but beatsliceing the songs is the most timecraveing and boring about it.

Here's some of my thought's with Abelton so far:

1- Abelton is a great tool for production & jamming live yes.

2- "Mixing in abelton, as in 1 track to 2 or even with 3 takes no "beat matching" or synchronicity skill at all
.
3-If you are using loops and playing keys or a line in -> vox, saxaphone on top , while trigger ing new loops etc, then bravo you are adding skill, but thinking you are a dj by eqing tracks together that are already pre sliced to tempo is fooling yourself. a real dj beat matches on the go - serato , vinyl or cds. period, imo.

4-for those people finding the time
