first you need a good soundcard to capture the signal (no the ones with miniplug) I've used vinyl to make some acapellas, the result is good, but is a very hard way, you can read my sad history using hardware to do it in a previous post.

How do you use the vinyl? I'm interested, cause I mix.

I can remove some of the background using the mixer, and then drop a beat on the other deck, but that's all!!

can be hard with vinyl.. as you need a good needle/stylus and good recording path to your pc.. its easy to lose stereo seperation i think (which limits the effectiveness of doing a pan/expand)

You'll need to use SoundSoap 2 on the vinyl recording to clean up the pops and clicks and other yucky vinyl noise. I got a copy for $75 new on ebay and you can find it on the internet quite easily using froogle.com. Here's the proggie:

I do vinyl recordings a lot using an M-Audio Audiophile 192 PCI sound card.

Why people use the mic port on their computer to record, I don't have the slightest idea, lol.

I kinda like the vinyl noise. Sometimes digital recordings, especially Mp3's sound very sterile. Recordings from vinyl when pumped through a big system and a good compressor like a Drawmer sound really alive. Thats just my opinion though.

never really tried making a pella from vinyl. but alot of the noise can be eq'd out. but i suppose it would depend alot on what your using to record it.

Hi There

Just reading this froum and realised that I use my line in port on my G4 powerbook to do all my sampling. Are you saying that this is no good Shocked ?

How can I get around this as I'm not too sure what other options I have for recording?

its hard to do with vinyl. often stereo seperation isn't perfect if you've not got really good stylus on

yes your ADCs need to be good too. laptop line in isn't ideal
