Do it yourself acapellas or DIY refers to the procedure of manually separating a vocal-only portion of a music track from its instrumental counterpart; also known as vocal extraction. Lots of techniques, advice and help in here for creating that very special D.I.Y acapella. (NO REQUESTS)

if the music is loopbased like many hip hop songs, you can take a loop from the begining or the end of the song, duplicate it and you got something near a instrumental version, but if the loop have breaks it doesn't work
okay, so if i'm using cubase and want to invert the phase to make my d.i.y pella, i go to process....then do i select merge, subtract, flip left-right, left to stereo OR right to stereo...
I've just found the mother of mothers on info on making your own pellas. I really hope that this will help us all understand the technical side of this pella making. Enjoy
Just downloaded knockout, im rather keen to try the flip/phase method, i need to find a track and an instrumental track to try with
I don’t know what the next few years will bring. Maybe fame and fortune, nice cars and even nicer women, or maybe a Special Brew ridden existence in some nasty London council estate. We’ll see.....
we have tried to get this phase cancellation. I have extracted an instrumental for a mashonda single and the clean edit. They say that they are the same on the cd single, but there are differences. I made waves using cool edit and inverted the instrumental. Saved it. Went to the original and mix pasted it with the instrumental. Nothing but loud song. What the hell am I doing. Does this really work?

thats more of a general audio/software query.. try asking in the forum
Go to the preferences tab in Sound Forge. In there, you will see a tab for VST effects. Just check the ones you want sound forge to see. Once you close that, go into FX favorites and run the recreate by plugin name.
ya know the phase cancellation method outlined in step 1? well i did i in nuendo and when i play the 2 files back i get zilch. the meteres for the 2 audio track are jumping and so is the master level indicator on the mixer but pure silence is the result. and b4 u all get smart on me yes my speakers are switched on.
do u think u peeps can put a hold on the arguments long enuff to help me out?
i been usin knockout and it works but how do the radios do there remixes do they buy the acapella becuz ussaly at da end of da song da beat of the other song mixes with acapella of the other
Ive been trying to make me own pellas in Wavelab using both Phase Inverter process and ToolsOne Phase Plug with mixed results.
Anyone know why Phase inverting only worx in certain circumstances?Surely its nowt to do with the mics or method of recording the tracks?

For the 3 methods listed above, will they work if the recording is totally in MONO???
yes but you don't have the advantage of erxtracting centre mono which may have more vocal
Yeah, right I clocked that after a few hours of messin'. Funny site this one but I cant help but like it. Now then where are those------------ of the--------- coz i really wanna ------- someones tune into a dark D+B number! Cheers TiMG. Straight talkin' northerners eh?Where would we be wi-out em!
i've found that before using kn0ckout the alignment of the instru-mental with the normal song can be quite a pain using sound forge or wavelab, so devised a little trick, by loading both tracks into Acid as one shots and panning the one left and the other right alignment is quite easy, just render as wave and start kn0cking out ;) not sure if anyone else also thought of this...
make a video for all these confused people for making diy acapellas cuz i dont think most of these people get how to even install knock out. i think its easy to use but its too hard to explain.
