I have noticed that many ofd u people work at home, discluding hardware, or own a smalltime studio, mainly for recording... This may not be 100% correct, but anyway means i aint the only one...

I've noticed that a pro never leaves a vocal sound just a little touched...
Usually some reverb is added, on some places chorus is used, or something similar. I'm not talking about any special effects, vocoders or extreme effecting... Just the standards...

Im having a MAJOR problem in finding tutors on the net about producing and mastering vocals, so if someone finds anything on the subject, please post it here. The point is to make a psychoacoustic effect. (its possible that i've misspelled that) Note: I never do the recording. Others know beter.

Now, about the software part:
1)For adding subtile reverberation, i use Waves IR-1. The one fruity has integrated, the Sony's one, and most of the other commons - suck.
IR-1 is completely customizable, great quality, and can work as a totaly diferent effect than reverb (ie. distortion - but weird). Worth mentioning - costs 800$, just like Cubase Crying or Very Sad. But you surely have i friend who owns it...

2)Chorus - I have absolutely no idea on what to use here. Sometimes i do it manually, changing pitch and mixing the canals several times in order to get a nice eff. Often sucks. Or i give it to my collegue to do it... Me like the other solution... Smilie_PDT

3)EQ-ing. For this (i find it the most important part of the work) i use my ears. Simple.

That's as far as i know. And it aint enough. If U know another method of improving Q to the vocals, please say. Anything is apreciated. Tutorials especially.

What & why do U use?

hi, dude
put aside all those freakin softgear first
and start with good sources.
If you are not the one recording, but others, get in-
volved in the recording process before producing
already recorded vocals just to improve your skillz
and understanding. Your questions show that you`re
lackin that.
You can add PITCH DETUNE to a vocal, to make it sound
brighter and thicker, you can add CHORUS to vocals to to a similar
thing like Detune but always remember less is more!!!
Vocals can be doubled by the singer or via Computer
to widen it.
You can also add other modulation FX to the vocals, like
FLANGER and WAHWAH, known as effects used on guitars
Reverb and Delay dont use too much of it unless you want it,
too much will muddy up your sound. Play with DISTORTION
or get a VOCODER-type plug.
Think about learning (and learn) more about recording original
sources themselves before producing them!!!
Your stuff is only as good as its sources!
Be aware of what kind of music your vocals shall fit in and stand for, then buy a quality microphone first ( Audio technica, Neumann, Brauner, AKG to name a few...itz also depending on the money you wanna spent)
Secondly, buy a good preamp (mindprint, focusrite, spl goldmike)
Quality cables also count.
Have a versatile, professional, experienced vocalist to sing your music (this is the most important thing) That guy should be aware and handle
issues like breath control, sssss-noise, distance-to-mike-when, and producing a frequency that affects not only your system`s backup-capacity, but also the heart of the listener!!! Smilie_PDT
Decide on using valve sound, tape sound which c a n but dont has to improve your recordings, its a question of style and/or taste.
Try it in a Pro-music store to see what will fit.
When you record on PC oder MAC, the soundcard is the next important thing.
(terratec, emu-systems, etc)
Use at least 24 better 32 bit resolution,
and at least 96 khz (the bits are more important for the sound than the khz!)

The more plugs you use calculating Eq, Compress etc etc the more mathematics is done upon your source recording, always remember...the higher the resolutions the better ...watchout for a huge, fast HD(200MB) this quality stuff is hungry and needs a fast respond Smilie_PDT
Record only with a Limiter if any!
Dynamics while recording change the original source sound. If you dont use any, you have the original and can try out different versions later on, so you have more options in case you decide to give the signal a diffrent kind of feeling,
assure to make backups!!!! Dont ever forget..the s**t says goodbye when you dont want and need it to do so!!! Its always like that.

for abz.strakt - buy a new soundcard Smilie_PDT i know i don't know much,
but studio is a complex thing - costs, needs hell lota knowlege and is specially designed for a cause. Sorry.

sluggy - I love when someone gives a long answer to my question, of course if one knows what he is talking about. Like you did Smilie_PDT Great.
But put yourself in my skin: Im a student, without the needed expirience, no money, just a couple of enthusiastic "friends" with loads of money Smilie_PDT, a 55.6k internet conection (ok, that's complaining:)). All in all poor resources. The knowlege i own is all from tutorials i've spent hours and eyes health on. I own a SBLive! too.

Now, i didn't give you my biography just to, among else, complain, but to give you an insight in my situation. I've gor nothing but software and me ears...
