Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSoh okay
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSHi I'm just wondering is there a free program I can do this on for windows vista..
I cant seem to get the option2 working so im going to try the invert way ![]()
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSVery good info! Thank you. Can't await to try it out.
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSGreat info and thanks!
I'm new to DIY but not to audio/audio restoration (my full-time job)...so does anyone have a link for a full track and instrumental (RAR'd), so I can test and get some good practice? Thanks if so!
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSANYONE KNOW OF THE TRANCE TRACK 'SILENCE BY DELIRIUM' SOMEONE UPLOAD THE ACAPELLA OF THAT
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSDid'nt it was that easy! Gotta true it out soon! Thx.
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSHere's a method I have found for 80's acapellas, and I may have mentioned this before:
The extended remix method! Find an extended remix of an 80's song you want acapellas for. Study the structure of the remix, see if there are any instrumental bits corresponding to the verses or choruses that you can align alongside these verses and choruses What you do: Open ACID (how I do it) ... beatmap the song Do splits where all the vocals and choruses and vocal bits are Find sections in the mix where instrumental parts match the vocal bits, split them from the song, copy and paste to where the vocal bits should go And there you go, a DIY instrumental track which can then be used for acapella purposes. A great song that this worked on was Howard Jones Things can Only Get better. I have the acapella for this in the directory, and I made this entirely using the extended 12" mix of this song. The mix had a long instrumental break where the verse and chorus instrumentation were repeated, these were the keys to isolating the vocals.
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSI have pro tools but i still use cool edit alot for editing great program all around
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSI always use the phase cancellation - Audacity can't do much more. Managed to get some pretty good ones with that - I've got a Goldfrapp - Cologne Cerrone Houdini one that's pretty good that's being processed here (upped it the other day).
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSThanks for posting this , it will help me out alot.
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSSo many pages on this thread, I haven't read through them all, however, I have a suggestion on creating acapellas (Forgive me if it has been suggested like I said)
my Surround system has various 'Surround Sensation' options, and Dolby Surround options (Pro Logic, Pro Logic II, VS, XD etc) and one of them pulls the vocals out to the centre channel perfectly, if I unplug the centre channel I get just an instrumental, and unplugging the other channels, gives me just an accapella.. I know this will be using the AMP's hardware to process the track in ways similar to how people have posted on here, but this will really save lots of time, i'll soon be hooking my System up so I can record the acapella, or instrumental of any track I want, I'll let you all know how it goes once I have done some testing to find the best setting and levels, then i'll be churning them out like crazy ![]() - G
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODStotally
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODScool thanks, I'll try this out, I've always did the manual method by taking a instrumental of the original then invert it, then place the instrumental precisely under the original which mutes the instrumental leaving the vocal there.
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSHey Ghozer
Sounds interesting.. I wonder if your hifi system is doing anything else besides isolating the center image.. I can't imagine it's doing anything other than what software like soundforge or audition does with a centre extraction setting.. but you never know. They're might be something else going on if you're getting such good isolation on the vocal (when isolating the centre imagine you should be getting lots of drums and bass too) be interesting to hear the results
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSTried this on my own music, not perfect as tho a DIY acapella never will be but it really does work and is definatley a method you can use in your own music. thanks for the info.
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODScooooooooooooooooooooooooool
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSokay mann
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODShey all... i tried using audacity 4 the instrumental inverting thing bt i dnt knw hw to mix em 2geth f sum1 cld plz giv m a detailed explanation
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODS
Use Audacity. The same method applies for other software but I learned how to do it with Audacity. Import both Original track and Instrumental Zoom in (Alt + 1 for in, Alt + 3 for out) and align the waves Select the instrumental, then go to Effects>Invert. That's it. One thing I should mention that this method does not work for every song out there. Even if the tracks are both aligned properly, in highest quality, it still may not work. So if you're trying this method and its not working, then the problem is probably the song, not your alignments. I guess the other method of doing it is to contact the artist and request the acapella to remix it, but I highly doubt its that simple and if it is, there's always money involved...
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSHas any one ever used Utagoe? Its a little programme (in japanese) that has given me some decent acapellas from time to time. I'm new here so let me know if I'm able to share this programme.
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSDon't know if anyone's mentioned this yet, but on oldies (read: pre-high compression, high gloss studio stuff from the 80's and thereafter) sometimes the tracked is panned very hard. Just split your file, identify which channel is vocal heavy or vocal exclusive, delete the other and convert the remaining channel to mono. Clean up whatever bleed you might have with equalizing and restoration techniques. This affords some decent acapellas, though often you get one other instument; for instance a perc-acapella or an acapella with bass etc....
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODS
The tracks have to be lined up perfectly, meaning you will need to visually check the wave forms of both tracks to make sure they match exactly. Select your inst track, go to effects, choose invert, which will invert your wave form. Play back to see what you've got. If you've still got full inst or just inst background noise, your tracks might not be aligned perfectly. Adjust them. Zoom way the funk in to be sure you're matching absolutely perfectly. Playback. Repeat process. If you do this for a long time, and do not get a clean result, your tracks are likely not identical. Some filth will remain, though often more in some parts of the track than others.
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODShi, i use the Melodyne editor for making my acapellas. u can watch an introduction how to do on the website celemony meodyne. i think its a nice tool.
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSgreat tips bro... i think i should give it a try
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSVery helpful ! Thanks !
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODS
Did you REALLY just ask that???? If that acapella was more widely available it would come bundled with Windows!!!! U do deserve beating with a stick for asking that! Requests Requesting files - Rule 9 - not allowed. Shouting NO Shouting (all CAPITALS) - Rule 1
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSvery nce info!
Re: VOCAL EXTRACTION METHODSNice tutorial.
However, I am still not very sure if the Phase Cancellation method only works if you have an original and an instrumental tracks with exact length or does this also work with different track length? For example, take this record's track listing: A1 Eat You Up (Vocal) 6:40 B1 Eat You Up (Instrumental) 5:39 B2 Eat You Up (Radio Edit) 3:30 The records contains a radio version, extended version and an instrumental version of the same song. Will Phase cancellation still works in this case?...
