Producers - just an idea(Unstickied by admin)
How about we all decided on a tune, a built a remix from scratch. Dont know if this would work, how about if everyone member here interested added a bit to a track we all decided on, then passed on the track to the next person in the list, who would in turn mail it to the next person. I guess the only issue would be the software we all used etc. Unless we just passed it on as a midi file, and then the last person applied the VSTi's or patches in reason. I would love to hear the final result, probably be a really original track, theres a lot of producers with differant styles here.... What are your thoughts?
I'm a member of **** NO P2P DISCUSSION **** records and we did something similar along these lines a while back.
The idea was called 2MM (Two minute Massacre) - basically anyone interested in taking part put there name up. The dudes behind the label chose randomly - the idea being that person #1 creates a 2min track with an easy 15-20 sec outro part. Person #2 would HAVE to start his/her track using elements from the outro of person #1 (the person before them) So basically what we ended up with was a fairly lengthy continual mix. No doubt this same process could be adopted here. One thing I do remember though is that it was a logistical nightmare and certainly proved to be a challenge for the Master Engineer. Onbviously you can imagine all the issues faced with dealing with tracks from all over the place with various levels etc etc... Just wanted to add that info into this 'good idea' thread. acapella. A very unique idea...
This same process is done commonly in creative writing, where everyone starts off a short story, and then passes them around the other writers in the room to be completed. Often, when you get your story back, you're "brainchild" is nothing more than a "crackbaby." You'd be surprised, and even repulsed, at the results. It would work, however, if you got a group of serious people together and did the process. It can actually be a very tactful way of coming up with some good s**t, because it's so many different styles here.
Right guys well im off on holiday in bout three hours for a couple of days
cant wait. When I get back I will start a thread where u can read the offical rules etc and you can sign up. Will try and get accapella to sticky the thread in the audio productions forum or sommit.
Me and my friends put together songs on FL like that - taking turns. sometimes finding ways to build on other peoples ideas for a song can be difficult. but i like the idea so i'm in.

Right guys, official rules are here...
So far we have ------------------------------------------------------- citizen jones leemal Deank juno_reactor LilaZnb0i lyspy Mick C and myself on the list if i have missed anyone thats interested please pm me, this event will not start till the 1st september so we can build up more people to make it even more interesting ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The accapella I have chosen is Curtis Mayfield - Astounded purely because its a nice workable accapella that could be used in many differant styles from dance to r'n'b to just plain crazy......
The week before the competition I will randomly draw names to see where people fall in the remix process, the last person out the hat will be responsible for piecing everything together. The first person to start will put together ONE part in their choice of program (Has to be able to export as MIDI) then send the midi part, make sure your part is actually labelled as the type of instument you have used so the next person can apply the same kinda patch When the second person recieves the midi they will add there part to the same file obviously and send it on again ............ See how this is gonna work yet
The final person in the listing who is piecing everything together must not remove any whole part contributed, but may chop and arrange the final piece. They also bear the responsibilty of applying the final patches to the parts and adding effects etc. If anyone has seen any big problems with this idea please PM me and we can ammend these rules. I would be happy to let you master the final version if your happy in doing so, but i will need to look into the logistics of the whole thing. I will PM you to let you know in a day or so.
i think it a good idea, but what style of music are we talking about how long would the track be if we used acapellas who would be the one to use them etc etc
well the person randomly picked to go first would determine the style of music because i would assume he would produce a drum track, they would also decide how long to make the track

This was dj_caned's idea to begin with and we decided to get it goin on and then.....we got really busy and the project has been delayed. It is still on my mind though and I plan to get on it once I have time at home (most of my posts arent from my PC).
The only problem that I would see in this is that there are so many styles or tempos that would be conflicting in this project. I dont want to drive anyone away from this project by posting this but the odds are that this track isnt going to be straight up hip hop or pure trance/house. This project will probably drift somewhere into the region of experimental music - with flavor from different types of music. I have many acapellas if someone would like to request any they think would be a good one to use for this project. We had originally plannd to remix "Erik B. & Rakim - Follow tha leada" but suggestions are still open. The speed of this acapella is around 110 bmp which makes it able to fit into that "experimental" range that I was talkin about. Let me know what you guys think and hopefully we'll be able to get this thing started soon.
