I have read a lot about the supposed new iMacs comeing from apple... available for the first time in white (and) black. As well as there being some sort of touch interface like the iphone which the new version of "Logic" (or whatever they change the name to) will take advantave of. My questions to all is this... In order to compete with the likes of Ableton and Live and other such programs, what does Apple need to do with Logic to make it more of relevant program for todays rapidly changing ways of software interaction and usability?
Or, what would you like to see in the next version of Logic? |

yes, these rumours...
i do think that the touchscreen is a great concept for audio!!!
working with hands on the mixer and plugins sounds really good and easy plus soundswise it's a great step to get rid of two displays standing arround.
it's more like an old hardware desk.
bout "Logic 8" itself...
it was named "ProTools-killer" and i guess the main question is, if Apple wants it to be a "ProTools-Killer" (means better editing functions and focus on the low latency integration with Apogee, after all focus on recording and mix in bigger studios) or more a "Ableton-Killer" with liquid audio and additional functions for intuitive play with loops to strenghten the soundwriters side.
imo L8 will still try to be both but i think the focus will really be on beating ProTools.
the partnership with Apogee points in this direction and some though i don't believe in touchscreens in that size for under T€10 before 2012!!! and that's the money for a big ProTools-system...
i read that the Enviroment won't be a part of L8 and i really hope that's a hoax!! i LOVE the enviroment!!!
it's so easy to built a custom mixer for any use with it!!!
i hate chaotic mixers with lots of unused tracks etc. and the combination of Audo Mixer/Enviroment is unbeaten so far - even by ProTools and Cubendo.
so to answer your question i think L8 needs
- liquid audio with better algos than the now included ones
- a completely new audio editor
- surround busses and plugins (as seen in Soundtrack2 i.e. Space Designer Surround)
- sends on busses most important to make Logic a real competitor for mixing
- accurate offline-bounces most annoying part of L7 for me
- error-free WaveBurner - would really be a nice tool then...
- all audio tools from Final Cut (should be easy to get them..)
my additional dreams...
- integration of AudioSuite (RTAS) at least offline as it used to be..
- rewire-slave function for ProTools.. not a good idea for the ProTools-killer though...
let's hope for the best... |

As ever i hold the same opinions as Platitude...however at the moment i find it hard to write stuff out quite as eloquently (without having some sneering undertone, i blame the weather)
But yeah, if Logic could be intergrated with the other mac software out there that ties in like butter on bread (Final Cut studio elements for example) it would be awesome, especially for doing further film audio dubbing online (rather than offline, if that makes sense) |

Hey thanks for your comments!
I am actually not a logic user at the moment but will be as soon as they release the new line of imacs and logic 8.
I think the "protools killer" thing is definatly something that would help out, but I've been using Ableton Live and they need to integrate Apple Loops in a similar way that Ableton does. Admitedly I make loop based music, however, Abletons live is almost like an instrument in it's self and it really opens up the level of creativity that classic programs like Logic don't offer. Also Ableton just announce a partnership with Max/Msp which is going to be big I can tell. Apple should keep the environment and ADD to it... I'm thinking along the lines of Max Msp, or Reaktor.... I know that's a lot to ask though |

Personaly i think the logic is death line for apple cos they simply kill it... logic only was good Under Emagic name - i was official emagic logic user and they migrate me to apple with the 6.X version but i never more toward to 7 or 8 but i have NFR license from it so i can use it as free but its death way guy. Lots of bugs, troubles, etc... Only the Event Viewer and Hyper Edit are unbeatable from logic, this is the only 2 good think in this apps
Now i migrate to protools HD2 accel which is the most advanced for my work and i just warm u try protools before say this is bad system or simply feel to much price and i can solve this from less... try and after comprare and u will see this can be good
Protools LE with digi002/003 can be good home setup for working and u get lots of additional apps as free. |
