Aight, I'm sure much has been said about these two DAWs but I want you guys' opinion on each, pros and cons of both programs.

FL - i always found this strange to use, its so easy its hard sort of thing. lol. i just can't get my head around it after all these years. its nice that you dont have to be confined to just the included instruments. but work flow doesn't make sense to me. or maybe i'm just wrong.

Reason - always been the better out of the two. yes you're confined to what the program has built in instruments and effects wise. but this makes you more inclined to play around and get the most out of the Studio.

Also i know both can be plugged in to cubase and any other rewire compatible DAW. but even here - reason makes more sense.

FL studio is more 'instant gratification'
But reason......I dunno....just has more of a 'pro' feel about it without the pro pricetag.

hope this is useful

What next????? Pro's and Con's of mainstream sequencers????lol

On a composing/producing level, i havent come across anything i cant do in FL studio, aside from maybe tempo changes within the song but ive never even had the need to do that. The only downside i see to it is that its not the best thing to be mastering with.

Yeah you can jump into and starting making tunes pretty easily but you wont be able to experience it to its fullest until you really learn all about it, which i havent even gotten to 100% yet. Ive heard extremelly professional tunes come out of FL.

Cant comment on reason though, ive been using FL for years even since i got. Never had a reason to change.

I first started using fruitloops back in 2001 and thought it was cool. then i found reason in late 2002 and i was hooked; i just bought 4.0 last year.
Reason has to install 2 big sound banks (~650MB each) which takes up alot of disc space. like FIZZLES said, you cant change the tempo with in the song (protools can do this). uses lots of ram (depending on how many racks u have loaded)

I love the sound quality of the stock sound banks. I love how it connects with protools. it has a real cheap price. u can load your own wav samples into it. Changing the pitch of each sound and tuning it differently gives u endless fun of gettin something to sound different.

Then i found Protools and fell in love again, i dont use reason that much now because the free small (30MB) sound bank has the quality of professional sound modules and the ability to add in vsts and other plug ins to get the sound that you want. these are easier to use with the help of a midi keyboard.

Ahh word up, I've personally been a avid user of Fruity Loops since version 3 and just recent got FL studio 8. I tried to use Reason once and was left stumped to how to even begin to use it. =/ I guess you could say I'm kinda biased. FL studio ftw!

ive used reason alot, but ive had FL Studio since version 3 and its absolutely amazing, once you learn the full ins and out and everything, im still learning new things now, i LOVE IT!!! i prefer it over anything. Reason just feels a bit...i duno...crap..and weird and its layout is weird. and for mastering just get Ozone Smilie_PDT

most of the time i guess its not what you use but what u can do with it,

Will people ever stop asking the same question over and over and over?

What's better a chip pan, or a deep fat fryer?

Get the demo's and see which one you're most comfortable with.

At last, a proper question! Chip pan, of course. Nothing says 'danger' quite like a bubbling hot pan of oil and fat on a gas stove... Smilie_PDT

You can change the tempo of the track but you can't have a tempo change within your track in Reason unless it is in slave mode with another application such as Pro Tools.

There is a manual way of trying to do this which is explained here:

http://www.ctgmusic.com/topic.php?id=6294

but this is not automated.

Hope this helps;)

Not true, Reason 4 allows for automated tempo changes, and other transport automation loveliness.

I concur with otg. Reason 4 does allow tempo changes. It is the first version to do so. Some ReWire hosts offer a more intricate change. Nuendo and Cubase certainly have the ability to deal with intrinsic manipulation of tempo changes.

However, the most important issue is the one of Chip Pan and Deep Fat fryers. I do understand the need for an insurance claim with the Chip Pan, but I am far more inclined to go for the flexibility of the Deep Fat Fryer. It allows automatic temperature shut off for frying the odd goldfish marinated in white wine FINegar.

I have FL and hardware sometimes I just want to click and point and sometimes I'd rather hit pads.
