Being touted as "Music 2.0", MT9, a new format of digital music intends to use 5 separate channels within it for different instruments/sections of the track, eg. bass, vocals, guitar, drums etc...

Whilst this would revolutionise the way we listen to music, and hence how we extract acapellas, I'm not too sure it would work, due to copyright reasons, and also because it would quite possibly destroy the way in which music is mastered.
