Hi, I'm a new member here. I'm pretty new to DJ'ing and working with audio, but I do have lots of experience using Macs. I have over 3000 posts at Mac forum. I hope I don't sound like I'm flaming or trolling or whatever, but there's a load of misinformation in the Mac board. I guess I mostly joined here to get some advice, and help out with anyone with Mac problems.
Anyway, here's a list of some of the best Mac audio software out there. The ones in bold are some of my favorites.
http://www.dj1800.com/ - DJ-1800
http://www.algoriddim.net/ - djay
http://www.native-instruments.com/ - Traktor
http://www.rogueamoeba.com/ - Radioshift, Airfoil, Nicecast, Fission, AudioHijack Pro (some nice small audio apps)
http://www.discosw.net/ - Disco XT/DJ, and CuePhase
http://www.ableton.com/ - Live
http://www.xylio.com/ - FutureDecks Lite/Pro
http://www.ultramixer.com/ - UltraMixer
http://www.torq-dj.com/ - Torq
http://audacity.sf.net/ - Audacity
http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/ - Logic Studio
http://www.propellerheads.se/ - Reason
There's still probably a ton of stuff I've left out.
Oh, and Macs can get viruses, but in generally it's much harder to get infected by one due to the multiple layers of security. You would need to manually download the virus, run it, enter your admin password, and install it for it to do any damage. Another myth is that it's easy for a Windows virus to be spread to a Mac. Even if both computer use Intel processors, both computers are still very different. The virus cannot run at all on the Mac, because it's running a totally different operating system. It's like speaking Spanish to a person who only knows how to speak German.
The G3, G4, and G5 lines are being phased out. Although even I still am using a G4, most new programs work much better on the dual core Intel processors. Programs like Live and Ableton are becoming more optimized for Intel than the older PPC Macs. |
