I have a Sony Handycam (dcr-sr190) with an hard disk and I tried to use vegas 8 to burn my footage to dvd. It won't decode the sound from the video to the track. Even when I used the pixela software to seperate the two elements it would not do it.
Sony, if you are going to manufacture a piece of kit, then develop software with your name on it, please make it damn easy for us to use that expensive software to interact with the expensive hardware. |

I think its cause its using mpeg1 or 2 format. I know I had similar problems with HDD cams at work. Try with avi or just use decoder to convert to dvd format (vob). Editors have similar problems with mpeg files (like audio, interlaced pics etc.)
Maybe u should give more info on what exacly you would like to do or what msg did u get when trying to burn to dvd? |

Hi thanx for the quick reply, although I'm slow in replying to replies. Busy doing this that and him.
All I want to do is import the files in Vegas 8. I split the audio from the video file (using Pixela) and it doesn't load which then produces on screen protests of assault. I don't want to do anything special except add text, and some good images before each clip of video. I like the ease of Vegas but take a dislike to how the 2 same branded manufacturer products don't allow the ease of the end user when they have purchased 2 of the same brand. Maybe I should say, to clarify, I bought a Sony Handycam, then bought a Sony branded software thinking they would work together in harmony. They don't.
I'd like to know how because I'm going on holiday in July and I want to put the video on dvd using Vegas. I tried to edit using Windows Movie Maker but it won't load the file, before or after splitting audio from the file.
Recently a friend has tried it on Vegas 6, after the video and audio has been seperated, and it does it. Why?
I Think it records in the mpeg2 format.
Good thing I didn't buy the high definition instead.
Sorry it developed into a Sony rant. |

Sony are the Schubert's of the modern world.
They make something new and amazing.
However, Schubert had the excuse of dying before he completed his most recent master piece!

Try converting file to avi that should do the trick. If it doesnt be sure that you have latest codecs on your comp.
Dont know much about pixlea but if your capturing with it try directly from sony or movie maker. Maybe here is the problem.
To convert to avi just download RadTools its free and convert it to avi. But bare in mind that you need to have at least 12GB free space for 60min tape. |

Thx for that. I'll download it and try using the hdd 2 hdd and convert with that instead of the sony sponsored pixela.

You may want to try Nero 8. Nero Vision, one of the packages in the suite, is very good about importing...just about anything, even if it's in a weird format or resoultion. It even read the extremely annoying AVCHD format. you can go to nero.com and get a 30 day demo and see if that works. If it does, you can either edit directly in nero vision, or you can do what I do and just string the clips end to end and render it as a DV-AVI, then import it into Vegas.
