3. The song length, tempo and style are entirely your choice, just use some common sense and keep the song reasonably short; so we don’t get bored.

Ah, does that mean a 12" club mix is too much?.. *hunts for the scissors*
Cheesy Grin

Was there ever a verdict on how much we are allowed to process the vocals?

Also, presumably signing away performers and composers rights (as well as the recording) means that if there's a favourite riff or beat we came up with, if we use it here we're never allowed to use it again in anything else, even though we wrote it? Crying or Very Sad

C'mon guys n gals, all this has been answered.
The rules a pretty fair and simple and I think you will find that they are gonna be
similar in most competitions of this nature.
What about the competition beatport just hosted, you actually had to BUY the
samples!!!

If someone comes up with a slammin riff that they feel is good enough to stand
alone as a track, you got a contact at a record label right here who may be able
to give you a yes or no to signing it as its own track.
If that killer hook wins the comp, why would you want to use it again in another track?
Even the Venga Boys changed one chord in each of their tracks!

The way I see it, (feel free to correct me as im no lawyer)
If you love the sound of an instrument you created, that is still yours to use as freely
as you like with another score.
As long as you dont sample your winning mix, you are simply creating a sound
with your software. It would be like a session drummer having to buy a new drum
kit after every signed recording otherwise.
Or even a voice over only being able to make one recording as their voice is
now copyrighted and owned by someone else!

The prize on offer is rather nice if your a bedroom producer like myself and thats
getting your name out in the wide world.

Please dont think im having a go at anyone here, I mention this as the same
questions seem to be getting asked in one way or another and it sounds like
some people need a little re-assurance that their not selling their soul to the devil.
(Can you just confirm the bit about our souls lovegravy....?) Smilie_PDT

Anyways, best of luck to all the entrants
The deadline is nearly up!!!!

Good point well put Chunky...

Your Souls are safe with us....

Justice were discovered by remixing a Simian track for a comp, now they are huge....you don't see them complaining.

Wow, I'm really sorry man. I apologise totally if you thought I was just complaining. I really really wasn't, I promise - I read and re-read and re-re-read all the other posts over and over and I genuinely didn't understand the answer to this. I've never entered any of these competitions before, so I don't have the experience to know any of this stuff. I was only looking for help.

Is there any answer to the questions about the length and the vocals?

Absolutely no apology needed my friend, if you read it all and are still unsure all you can do is ask.
My 'observation' certainly wasnt aimed specifically at you, I would have quoted you
and given a if it was Smilie_PDT

As I understand, "let the creative flow loose…any genre; any style" means do what
ever you please.
Those poor guys from ED may feel like someones made voodoo dolls of them
when they hear my masacre, and Ill guess mine wont be the only one.
Forget the scissors and go at it with a real tool!

Hahah thanks Chunky, you've put my mind at rest!

I haven't left myself much time, but I'm giving it a go all the same. If nothing else, it'll be a learning experience! Smilie_PDT

Thanks again!

Just thought I'd drop by and leave a little message...

Now that I've fired my entry off to 54 Records! Smilie_PDT

I kept quiet about it on purpose, even after Chunky had asked me if I was entering, 'cuz I didn't want you all raising your game! LOL (Not that anyone would probably need to of course! Cheesy Grin)

Anyways... The cut-off point approaches rapidly... Good luck to all!

Why do you think I didn't tell you (or anyone else) about it!! LOL Smilie_PDT

Actually, if (and thats a very, very big if) my remix makes it into the top 10 (so gets previewed here) then, once compared to everyone elses, I have no doubt I am going to be very embarrased indeed! Embarassed

Still, I'm looking forwards to hearing yours too! Smilie_PDT Smilie_PDT

As I said before... Good luck to everybody... Deadline is getting closer, only 4 hours to go so make sure you get your entries in....

I'm off out for a 'few' hard earned beers!! (Play nicely while I'm gone!)

I hope you sent it in RT because rule 6 doesn't state the time at which 1st April 2008 commences. It doesn't appear to have been restricted to a certain time zone.
