This is the first dub I've put out there for people to check out. I took a full track and a midi. Changed the midi in Garageband, did the tracking and dubs in Soundtrack Pro. It's not mastered. Just realised the bit rate is pretty high, will go away and put up a lower one soon. Would appreciate any tips you may have for EQ etc.

Polarized,
Cheers for pointing that out... My guess is Savefile have clicked onto the link being off their site.. Have had six valid downloads so far via this method - but times do change huh... Well try this link Mr Mukura V Cypress...@ 192kbps or this one Mr Mukura V Cypress...@320kbps - these should take you to the Savefile site where I have my stuff hosted. |
Cheers - Nigel |

Hi Mukura,
Just listened to your track, you know, giving tricks and tips to "achieve the work" is not easy as it sounds. What i can say,is that if you wanted to give your track "a dub space",you've reached it,cause there is a "Live" kind of sound in it.
So on the other side if it was not the point of your "mix",try to lower the send of the reverb.Maybe you can compress some of the drums, the bass too.
Perfect mix doesn't exist, you can always add something to a track from an "artistic" viewpoint and from a "technical" one.
It's only a matter of personal choice,i mean,yours.
It's all i can say.
Your work pleased me. The atmosphere is good. |

Polarized,
That's some really helpful feedback thanks. Yeah, ultimately I'd be dubbing on a desk with real gear, so the Live & Atmosphere response is pleasing to hear, Compression on the riddim sounds like what I'm after on the tech side... just kind of felt a bit loose, not quite dirty but could easily turn muddy in a set me thinks.
Five years of art school taught me to get a solid day job and become a tradesman... go figure (got to pay that loan back). I'm used to the critique environment and aim to do a tidy job. It's taken me a good twelve months or so to start finding the direction to roll with on the production side, have dabbled with it on and off a bit over the past ten years, and in the last couple increased my focus and dedication. I'm fairly happy, not quite ready to go to vinyl on a shady bootleg though..
Like I say, you're on the right track with your tips thanks for your time and consideration. To you (P), and all of you reading - I'd like to know how it stacks up on your system at home (or car) when you put it next to something similar that you would maybe put in the same set or make a compilation disc.
I know this is a tricky one too - a prime example would be Burning Spear - Marcus Garvey & Garveys Ghost... The Dubs are all over the show compared to the original album, and within the dub set, some are really high freq, some are quiet mixes etc..
All feedback is well appreciated. Thanks again.

Mukura,
Your track,from a sonic viewpoint,in his actual state,sounds ok.
But,as it is not masterised yet,it have a "lack" of overall level.(never push it too high, and don't believe what the VU meters are displaying, trust you ears.)
Not very important, but that's -for me- the only "wrong" aspect of your track. |
