well Mr. hippo, serato is very basic, they keep things simple so it just plan works... i have had scratch live for quite sometime. its the greatest thing ever invented. ha. it comes with some really great features... such as being able to do a set with only one table. this is handy if a table goes out, worn record etc. it also has the lowest latency out of anything on the market.
i highly recommend it.

Hi Hippo,
I have actually used both and i would definately go with "Serato Scratch Live"..
I think it is a way better option with more avenues to explore in sound.

traktor scratchs has lot of fuctions more than serato and it is more steady.
in serato if the calibration is not perfect the track maybe oscillate a bit in pitch, in traktor not. then in traktor u can add loads of fx and loop, midi controllers and stuff.. i go for traktor! |

I would suggest trying to demo out both in a specilist music store. I have Traktor and I love it.
Please don't let people go on about stability issues and latency etc. That is all system dependant. What works for them may not work for you.
Get a free latency checker for your system and ensure it can run these apps. If not you may have to add a new system to your cost.
In Traktor if you don't have a very good system then you can't use many of the addtional features (key lock - vocoder, 96khz etc).
The best advice is to really study the area before you buy (programme and hardware) and also be ready to think your system once you have it on.

they're both good, but i've found serato to be better. i scratch a lot and i just found traktor to have to much of a delay and before rokki has a go at me that was on a desktop that is optimised for music. serato does still have a bit of latency but i can get it lower than traktor.
i also don't really want to run vsts with the program, which traktor does allow you to do.
in the end it comes down to what you want to do, but as someone who teaches djing as well as playing a couple of residencies i would really advise not learning with serato or traktor. get a record/cd collection and learn the old way. i've just found that people end up with better technique. |

Hey, I never shout at anyone. Everyone is entitled to their opinion . What I will say is that latency doesn't always come from processor. It can be caused by a bottleneck in another part of the system so just because it's on a desktop doesn't mean it should work better.
And by the way Traktor doesn't host VSTs, although this would be a cool feature for the future, as long as it doesn't affect stability.
Currently Traktor isn't multi-threaded so it can't use both cores. On my dual core laptop (2Ghz, 2GB Ram) I can get it to run @ 8ms, this is with one core with no activity. That is using about 50% CPU. I don't want to push it more than that cause sometimes I'll get CPU spikes when playing all 4 decks at the same time (all with key lock on).
Now 8ms for me is perfect. The only scratching I do is my arse!
You will always get these arguments and it's all down to personal taste. If you like it use it. When I started out I bought 1210's because I didn't want to learn on something else I wasn't used to when playing out. This ain't the case for DVS systems. I love Traktor, it's ace. Using it along with Mixed in key has really brought my DJ'ing to the next level. If I used Serato I would probably find the same thing.
