Has anyone bought a pair of the new Technics Digital Turntables? I have the Pioneers Cd Turntables now. When I heard about Technics coming out with new cd turntables, I was so amped! I couldn't wait to get a pair. Reading all the specs on this unit and all the features, I thought for sure it was going to be almost identical to the Technics 1200 turntable. I recently got to try one out at a store and was pretty disappointed. Granted, the feel of it was closer to vinyl than my Pioneers, but I felt the overall scratching quality was better with the Pioneers. The problem I found with the Technics is... the disk seemed to be too light. The platter and the motor seemed to be great... but the disk took time to get up to speed when you let it go. It responded like a warped record. Does anyone know if there is a fix to this problem. I thought maybe the unit came with different disks. One that had more weight to it. I think if the disk was heavier, it would cause more friction on the platter and when you let it go, it would be up to speed quicker. Like I said before... the motor spinning the platter is strong. The platter does not slow down when you hold the disk... the disk just needs to grip the platter more.

I have gotten a chance to use the new Technics CD players and the looks may be deceiving. The truly give a better feel than the Pioneer CDJ series and the Denon S series when it comes to vinyl manipulation when it comes to scratching. The scratches that I can do on a regular 1200/1210, I can pull of on the Technics CD player effortlessly and have the same sound, but that is where the good thing about the CD player stops. The plastic piece that mimics the record feel on the CD player is way to loose and after a week or so it gets to the point where there is for a lack of better words "latency" between the time you do scratches and when you actually hear them. I called Technics about the problem and they informed me that they were not going to fix the CD players and suggested that I return them and wait till the second version (MK2's) come out. On top of problems with the surface of the CD player being too loose, you also can't scratch when the master tempo is activated, which to me kinda defeats the purpose of having a master tempo. The two bolts on top of the platter also gets in the way sometimes. Other than the problems stated, the Technics CD players are very intuitive and much easier to use than the pioneers, but in my opinion...the Pioneer CDJ's are tried and proven, and it sounds as close to vinyl as your going to get when scratching. Maybe the new Numarks will fair better...at least they are a little cheaper.

Yeah, I think I will stay with the pioneers. I am kind of glad the Technics were not perfect. I wasn't really ready to spend the money.
