Is this a good deal? ($60 for a vestax pmc170a mixer)

Postby DJThuht on Sun Dec 09, 2007 1:49 am

I saw this listing on craigslist, this guy is selling some decks and mixers, and he says he'll sell me his Vestax PMC170a for 60 USD. As I understand it, these are kind of old, but then again, its Vestax, so I should be good?

he reports:
Its in good condition, I didnt use it much, everything works on it, ill take bout 60 for it let me know.....

and sent this picture:

I know I should check it out and make sure everything works on it, but I'm not quite sure...just check that all the channels play, and all the mic inputs are good, and the EQ works, and the crossfader works...anything else?
Is it worth 60 bucks? (I don't have any equipment right now, but I wanted to get the mixer first, if this was a good deal.)

Thanks for taking a look.

Check that the PFL buttons aren't leaking, that all knobs are turning around okay, that the channel faders aren't leaking too, that things I think.
I think it's worth the 60 bucks.

now...how do I check to see if they're "leaking"? Play sound thru them with the faders down? I don't really know what that means.

Well, once you play a song through one channel, put the fader down, and listen closely. Then slowly let the fader go up, so the volume will go up too. If the volume goes up accidentally, or the fader makes noise, that means it's leaking. At least I thought that's it :)

Ahh, ok- and then, I'd never heard of prefader listen buttons before this. Does this mixer have them? I don't even know what they look like, or how to test them.

Thanks for the help, man =)

Every mixer should have PFL buttons, this one has switches. Small chance they are leaking, I think that switches are better than buttons.
