This is kind of a poll. I'm wondering how many working djs (djs who play at venues, not your basement) on this site use records VS computers/Serato systems.
So what do you spin with?

Currently Im using my Serato setup exclusively. I play a 3 hour weekly show and enjoy dropping new tracks, 3 hours a week, every week, would add up HUGE to buy records. I can buy 30 or so "tracks" for the same price of 5-7 records. Not to mention, but I can also have all my tracks and not have to carry 50 record bags. I love vinyl to death, but I needed to step up to complete what I do.
On a side note, I know of 5 other "working" djs here also that use Serato or Final Scratch. Of course we all pack up a couple favorite actual vinyl, but most of the time its just Serato. |

i don't use computers. i like my cd's and vinyl way too much.
However if i'm doing something a bit more creative i may use abelton. |

| I've had Serato for about a year now and I rarely use any real vinyl. Eventhough I still buy vinyl, I find Serato more practical than carrying 6-7 crates in and out of clubs and dealing with warped records. Plus all the vinyl I have doesn't get worn out. |

| I'm a freelance club/party/rave/festival dj or whatever. I've been using Final Scratch for years. The past year I primarily use FS2, and CDJs when that isn't an option. |

Hahaha... I was so focused that I didn't even consider cds! Ok, well so I'm gonna include cds with vinyl for the stats.
So far:
Vinyl/cd: 4
Serato/Computer: 4
So far it's a tie! Let's get more input from others!

U can do a lot of cool stuff with cd but the real technique is with vinyl!

Well, I use all 3 options.
I still use my vinyl but only for in the house so I rarely buy vinyl any more.
I have Serato scratch which I just recently bought about 3 to 4 months ago but I do not have all my crates organized the way I want em which I only started doing about 2 weeks ago due to the fact that serato wont work with Windows Vista. So I had to get another laptop to use for the meantime. I use it mainly for weddings and such events. But Since I do play out every week at the club, I gotta make sure they go the right way and when u work with 3 or 4 other dj's its not that easy to take serato off and go directly into the cds. So, for now cds are the move for me |

No deal. Just asking if there was any real point in repeating yourself.
Maybe no one has commented because no one's used it, thus proving that no..no one's tried it yet...maybe? i dunno, i'm just thinking out loud. |

| I switched Serato about 6months ago...used to take a crate "just in case," but finally got comfortable with just bringing my Dell laptop...I've been cool so far! Oh...the shortcut ctrl+alt+ (left/right arrow) rotates your screen...if you use the shortcut ctrl+(left/right arrow) to load your song, be aware and keep your fat finger from hitting the alt key aswell. |

I play about twice a week and it really depends on the location I'm at and their setup. Most DJ's that work with me bring their laptops with serato or final scratch, however we always have the turntables and cdj's set up.
I always have and always will prefer vinyl. Stricly for the hands on feel and sound of a record. (not to mention EVERY DJ NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO MIX ON A REAL TURNTABLE).. yet that's for another thread.
With the uprise in mp3 stores online, I must admit that I've been getting alot more mp3's and have been playing cd's more often. Not so much for the ease of use (because you can't SEE the breaks like you can on a record), but alot of new tracks are coming out on mp3 far before they come out on vinyl. It's click... and you have it in seconds, rather than waiting for ups to deliver your 12"s.
I still, however, do NOT use software for live mixing. I do agree that is convenient and know the benefits of it... but I continue to have many, personal holdups about digital mixing. To each his/her own. |

| Still spin some vinyl, but most of the new dubs come in the form of mp3 downloads or email attachments. The really cool thing is having two tables, two dvjs, and serato going into a djm1000 with a v4 hooked up to the midi. I can use the dvjs to run dvds, play cds, or play time coded cds and dvds. The time coded dvd thing is pretty nice. Extract the dvd audio and insert the serato time code. everything is nice and combined. |

| Vinyl First then CD's, computers take all the fun out of Dj'in. Part of the fun is carrying your record bags around and trying to search for a record u want to play in the dark, Its all part of the Dj Experience |
