Everyone tells me how much they hate Mac and that PC is more user friendly. Is this true, especially in the area of Audio and video editing?

I wouldn't say either one or the other is better,
but for me Mac's are just nicer to use.
Everything seems to be more integrated and less fuss.
That is until I started to use Native Instruments Apps (their great just a pain to get going initially) but thats more them than PCvsMac and a little off subject sorry. |

CrunchTyme you asked " what are Native Instruments Apps..."
Native Instruments are the makers of some of the most exciting vst/au plugins out there
Not cheap but well worth the money once they're working
h++p://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=home_us
They are also the makers of the Traktor DJ Studio which is well covered on the DJ'ing forum here
Why not try the demo of Traktor 3.2 Mac(UB) or PC versions available there is also some sort of free version available (not tryed it)
I'm a big fan of Native Instruments go check out the website and save those pennies they soon become an expensive hobby |

| I was a pc user/builder and hated macs for years...til I got one. I'm never switching back. Macs are the more stable platform and it makes a huge difference not having to reboot as much when you're trying to be creative. It's also nice to know that I can go into most studios and not have a problem using their gear. And i don't even miss the right click. Just bought a different mouse. |

that's quite a misunderstanding.. you can plug any mouse with right mouse click to your mac and it'll work!!! or press CTRL while clicking - et voila: right click..
btt
i think today it's just a matter of taste. you can work absolutely 'highend pro' on both systems and both have their weaknesses..
IMO xp doesn't crash that much anymore and i saw my mac crashin also (osx can't crash? ) but at least for my personal feeling, osx is more stable then xp..
as macs aren't more expensive then pcs anymore today, you can perfectly built your system based on your preferences, especially for apps.
my main tool is logic which is just available for mac, so i got a mac as main-station and would never switch back too..
ProTools, Live, Reason, Melodyne and most of my plugins run great and i can't complain though i still have a pc for cubase and fruity loops..
plus i never had any struggle with driver installations, different vst-folders for any app (just two ) or big system optimizing sessions...
but just my 2cents.. |

I have a PC and a Mac G5 and i would never ever use a PC for making my music now way! i just use my PC for game's etc.I love my Mac G5 it makes me want to turn it on lol it is just so nice to use,it did take me a while to get use to OSX tho from using Windows.I feel Windows always try's to take over everything you do with Mac OSX it feels part of you it is awsome,if you are really serious about making music like starting a Record Label etc and want to do it professionally invest in a Mac and get Logic Pro i use Logic Pro it is awsome |

| I use a mac g4 love it. I've never had any problems running any programs(cubase, reason, live and a few native instrument's applications). Solid thru and thru. If you're going to invest the money and want to do it right go with the mac. |

Currently own a selfbuilt PC (for producing) and a Powerbook G4 (for live/on the road).
One of the noticable differences for me is that the PC crashes my USB soundcard and my mac uses it without a problem.
Actually mac works excellent with USB, windows comes out poor with the compatibility of most products.
When I got enough money I'm gonna get rid of PC's for good and switch to a Macbook Pro with Win running along for FL Studio (the only reason I didnt switched to mac 5 years ago already)
As all people above already mentioned, OSX is more stable and has better performance on equal systems with windows. Userfriendly interface, great audio usage (less latency than windows), better midi support. etc. |

| Well., it seems like its a win win situation with a mac. I had a pc and was recording music with it. Mostly live instruments, etc. (acid) It did the job but i had run into many loopholes that mac already had figured out. my powerbook with ozone keyboard is not bulky, yet sleek and professional looking, plus works fluidly. PC's are for losers. |

| I wouldn't say that its an industry standard but a lot of artist either us them or use them both. There's not one commercial studio facilty that wouldn't have one' especially in LA. It's all about preference and what warez you using. heck you can use Pro Tools for both but I personally think MAC's are more of a work horse when it comes to running Pro Tools. And yes, we can argue about benchmarking all day until we're blue in the face. |

The question was... Is Mac really the best choice for music production ...not what negativity you feel with regards PC users. We don't like negative content which others may find 'offensive' or seen as 'flaming'. |
