I'd like to first of all start off by saying a massive thanks to InSilico in all his hard efforts in securing this awesome prize for a future competition here on Acas4U.
I know that the House Remix competition's seems to have taken ages (well, that's because it has) but seriously, we're more than aware that we have a huge producing pool of talent here on the forum and we're thinking that perhaps we'll do something along the 'Hip-Hop' side next time. we're unsure at this stage.. but please bear with us until we've wrapped up the Ableton House Remix competition.
Thanks very much. |

Sounds good. As far as the contest is concerened how about one that is open to all styles, techniques? The house comp just finished, there was a hip hop/rap comp before that (can't remeber what the prize was if any).
For instance an anything goes mash up contests. A true mash up not just customs beats with an acapella. In some of the other comps you could not really do this. Everything can be used custom beats, loops, samples, acapellas(multiple) etc.
Best mix wins. Simple to the point no rating system and rounds. Whoever gets the most votes wins. This way anybody who enters has a chance no matter what style mix it is. It has to be an original mix though. If someone ulpoads anothers as there own they are disqualified.
Just a thought probably needs more thought.

| I can't wait for the hip-hop competition. Also, I believe a contest that opens up to all genres will be hot! I think that's when all the talent on this site would get crazy creative. |

| the all-round comp soundz ok but if u think about it all the genres are difrent & there ar some genres you can do more with it, and some are easier than others so there's already an advantage/dis-advantage for some. |

| pella: yes, but our discount on those isn't very much at all. you only save a lot when you spend a lot. IE, a 52" Plasma TV you save $2500, but you also pay $8500+ |

Now THATS a lot of cash!
Same situation with me, used to work for an AV company so plasmas/lcd's were cheap(er) but not quite cheap enough!
Id be keen to enter into any comp, though i agree with prequel that an all genre comp would put some at an instant disadvantage.
A compromise would be difficult to come to as there is only one prize. so maybe a comp which allows multiple genre categories - from each a class winner is voted for.
Those winners then get put to a secondary vote which decides the overall winner.
That way you have what is seen to be the best of each genre battling it out.
is that too convoluted? |

Just my opinion.. but the 1st part would work.. but when you gotta decide between each genre for a prize.. it aint fair.. you'd most likely have favoritism among the judges for which ever genre they like most. If its just one genre.. you can equally narrow it down to the best put together and feel of the song...
MAybe that helped.. maybe not.

The problem with an open style comp is that the hip hop tracks will always get the most votes (regardless of quality) cos there are more hip hop peeps round here... so it would be unfair to producers from other lesser known/abstract genres.... IMHO... |
